Speedee88,
Thanks for your constructive comments.
First, I'm much more of a skiller and not a very good at PVP. So my comments here could be greatly improved by a combat player with a better understanding of the tactics used in combat.
That said, my thoughts are that the new foods created would have different bonuses. I would hope that these bonuses would be balanced therefore although a certain food might give you a defense bonus it could be countered by a different food that would boost a certain attack function. Basically the same type of effect you get from different potions.
Now if you just need to take foods that are suited to the enemy rather than sharks and pots then yes, you will have more room for these foods in your inventory and that may very well prolong the fight, unless your enemy is eating foods that make him/her hit harder so you have to eat more often than usual.
That is the balance to which I speak.
I have considered on many occasions closing and rewriting this thread. The idea as a skill has received roughly a 50% approval rating and much more so as an addition to cooking. And probably a full 25% don't even get past the first sentence and just state something that they believe is a new contribution to the thread like "Thats called cooking".
Mod Crow did comment on the idea quite some time ago but my experience with him is that he very rarely returns to a thread one he makes a single comment and therefore there is absolutely no opportunity for discussion.
My present frustration with the decisions of Jagex and the impact of those decisions on their long standing, legitimate players is leading me more towards canceling my membership and just moving on to a game that values playing a fair game over being more profitable. Putting more energy into my efforts to improve the game, however popular or unpopular, just seems like a waste of time at this point.
Elsewhere, recent discussions with Mod Mat K has given me a glimmer of hope.
Boring? As compared to what? Fishing, Woodcutting, Fletching, Herblore, Firemaking, Mining, Smithing, Thieving, or maybe Prayer?
With the addition of different Butcher knives, Butcher saws, Butcher blocks, Butcher shops, Butcher rooms in your POH, and different cuts of meat I can't imagine it being more boring than anything listed above.
Also, I'll give this Support. After all, it couldn't be anymore pointless that Firemaking (which I'm still yet to see a purpose for other than I cool 99 haha).
Like you've said this could very easily be directed into helping: fishing, cooking, hunter, firemaking, etc.
Also like mentioned, like in real life, some food if not properly prepared is extremely dangerous, so this would go along very nicely
I agree with other players by adding it to cooking, not a separate skill.
Besides, I think RS already has its fair share of animal/monster cruelty in other skills
Do you wanna be
Very good and unique idea for a skill! But if the food gave combat boosts it might just be a bit too much like eating food and potting, so how about it gives skilling boosts. For example makes you mine faster or more likely to catch something in hunter. Or maybe it could boost combat and skilling? And btw I support and really hope this gets added to the game!
"I agree with other players by adding it to cooking, not a separate skill.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Eating the meat of the animal that is already dead is not any more cruel than killing it in the first place...
I'm not saying this to offend, but it seems that people have been seeing an aspect that they could imagine in a game and going "OMFG Let's make it a skill!!11!".
I'd really like it if people actually took apart their idea and said "Where would this be most likely to fall under, as opposed to creating a new skill?".
I'm not saying that your idea isn't lovely, and I would like to see Butchery as something as an add-on to Cooking, but I really can't imagine it as a stand-alone skill.
