I could see some challenges in convincing your team to go along with it. Do you want to waste several minutes in game AND the wait time in boat for it?
Be nice if Pest Control had a single player option. At least then if you didn't do anything, then it'd just be your time wasted.

Can't defend the knight with pests streaming in from three gates, nor can you repair the gates since the pests'll just destroy them right away, nor fight the portals since that'd leave the knight undefended.

Can't defend the knight with pests streaming in from three gates, nor can you repair the gates since the pests'll just destroy them right away, nor fight the portals since that'd leave the knight undefended.

Don't the number of pests that spawn scale to the number of players in a match?
If so, they could introduce a "solo mode" where the number of pests that spawn are half or so what spawns in a 5 man game.
Plus with increases in tier of gear, portals and pests are somewhat quicker to bring down these days compared to pre-EOC.
And ... there are players that love a challenge.

Don't think they scale, no. Have you played since the last overhaul, by the way? The pests most assuredly pack a punch now.
Veteran is impossible with 5 players.
