Trivia
- Notes on a staff only have letters A though F. According to the English alphabet, 'A' is the first letter and when in school, an 'A' is the best score you can get on a test.

Umm, what about the G chord?

Other than that I dig the idea, being one who plays music professionally... You dont have to have the sounds on to train it either, sure it would be nice but not required i wouldnt think
Remember when DI High-Alched thousands of Santas, Masks and P Hats in protest to RWT ... I helped

In my thread, Tables in Prifddinas, I discussed what violins are made from.

Yew is not one of the constituents. Instead, some parts are made from pine or spruce, which would be regular logs, others from maple. Combat is needed as well, sheep for some strings, unicorns for the bow.

Support, definately!
Another way it could be useful in combat is via an item such as enchanted excalibour. Though it's hard to come up with a unique idea. (We already have healing, stat boosting, restoring,... items in the game)

I fully support this! I actually suggested a music skill a few days ago when filling out the annual survey, glad to see such a fleshed out idea for it. Sorry, not sure if it was mentioned in a later post or not, since I just glanced through the op and a couple replies, but it would be cool if we could create sheet music using music macro language (MML). Not sure if naming other games is against the rules or not, so I won't, but this concept is in another mmo and it was my favorite part of the game. I would love to see this added in to the music skill in runescape.

Also, for other reasons, I have suggested that the metal Zinc be added to the game, so that in addition to making Bronze with Copper and Tin, one could also use Copper and Zinc to make Brass.

There is a quest in the game where a player makes a lyre. And there are musicians in certain spots to whom the player can listen to heal faster while resting. But, while it certainly fits in with existing RuneScape mechanics to have players make musical instruments, the objection that music, unlike even Farming, Fishing, and Crafting, is of limited relevance as a support skill for combat is a legitimate one.

That is why I hadn't suggested anything like this; I just thought it might be cute if one way a player could train Crafting was by making musical instruments. Making Music into a full-fledged skill is a tall order.

However, the game already has skillers as well as players who train Combat but don't bother with skilling. Maybe the way to make a place for Music is to make it the first of a new class of skills, "Auxilliary Skills", which are treated somehow as specializations. Having it as an Elite skill like Invention, however, may be sufficient to address that concern.

So in training:
1 off xp gains similar to invention blueprints. Chunk of xp for each song i learn and musical instrument i learn how to make

Would we use a similar mechanic to item level with the instrument and song sheet?
Players play an instrument. Your divine energy has an effect on your weapons and tools that improve them (in a way, the inanimate item "learns&quot ;) . , the player then siphons off the xp. This is the main way you train invention.
With music, as the instrument is played, the sounds of the music have a similar effect. It becomes more finely tuned (insert musical jargon).
While invention has the siphon and dismantle mechanic, perhaps the player would use a perform or trade in mechanic.
In performances, the player would play the spirit out of the instrument (making it level 0-1 again). You would have a chance of over playing it (think like musicians in stage who get so wrapped up in the performance, they destroy their instruments).
Alternatively, it becomes the in game equivalent of a Stradivarius. You can get the siphon type of xp for handing it in.

Types of music:
Ballads, marches, songs ... Any one of a number of descriptions that can even imply tiers. Ie song = low tier. Ballad/march = mid tier. [Impressive name] = high tier.

Combat effect songs
AoE pvm stat drain - player requires instrument equipped. Enemies in a large radius have a certain stat drained. This can stack with other curse (prayer + magic) but only 1 player can have ut active at a time. But effect is low %. Ie up to 3%
Single pvm drain - can be in inv. Similar effect as aoe, but higher % effect
Group buff - buff allies in a large radius in a single stat. Again, low %. Only 1 player can do it at a time. Must be equipped.
Dmg and healing over time AOE - the song you play can dmg enemies or heal allies.
Dmg effect would not necessarily guarantee a loot drop (similar to corruption shot and blast)
