Kind of like what other MMO games have done to prevent the number of problematic players in chat, as well as those advertising gold sites..

I think there should be a restriction on F2P accounts much like the trade limit, Where an account that hasn't been a member at least 2 weeks has a public chat cooldown, or is restricted to quick-chat. (Friends Chat, Clan Chats, and Private Messages should be fine)

The amount of accounts that get made purely for trolling or advertising would be greatly reduced.

No support. Believe it or not ftp has actual communities, and there are players who either cant afford membership or have returned after a long time and are seeing if they want to play again.

The ignore list and report features in the game are a thing.

Looking at OS and the sheer amount of spam bots you have on any given populated location without some advanced locks on any given p2p world without a total level restriction - membership alone certainly isn't a good (or even something that could be called remotely working) mechanism to prevent this.

What would work better is a total level and/or quest points restriction - not so high, it would negatively impact regular players, but forcing bots to spend some time first - giving jagex the opportunity to get rid of them in some timely fashion.

Fair point, I'd agree some sort of a total level requirement would probably work better.

Or they could just work on the system they have in place (that is letting so many links slip through the net). When I say "so many" there really aren't that many to be fair. I check every now and then (f2p worlds) and it's mostly just mining and store-run bots that I see at the G/E.

The guys doing drop parties and then advertising their twitch and discord are the worst; they get players off of the game first, where what happens next is behind closed doors. And since it's hard to prove whether or not they're legit, I assume reports don't have as much effect.

I couldn't agree more.

Having a total level and/or quest point restriction in place would effectively make throwaway spambot accounts worthless, without unfairly punishing legit free players.

The only downside I can see with this option is that it would also prevent new legit players from asking questions in-game, aside from using quick chat - which might not cover their specific questions.

I would support this.

I hardly ever see links being spammed in-game, except when I hop over to World 3. Any links I do see I automatically assume are scammer sites.

That's why it's important to find something reasonable. OS locks its poll system behind 300 total levels and 25 hours of game time (+membership), which would be too much for something as essential as the chat. RS3 - when it finally did something to protect its raffle - had something like a 125 total level restriction (+membership), which wasn't effective at all to keep riggers out. So it needs to be some middle ground probably.

I think 200 total levels and 10 quest points wouldn't be too insane, albeit sure - it could hit that new player who needs help with something before that point. Probably worth checking out other systems for that matter.
