I don't know very much about the RuneScape economy- what could Jagex do to stop the massive inflation in rare prices? Something that always motivated me was the idea that I could someday own a partyhat, but that seems increasingly impossible now :/

Not much Jagex can do. Looks like affording partyhat is now the most challenging goal in RS3. Both good and bad.
Good - gives everyone a more challenging goal to work towards, perhaps after maxed XP.
Bad - very few people will be able to achieve a partyhat.
Net net I think it’s good for the game. People have something seriously challenging to work for!
But the price of partyhats already made acquiring them challenging, now it seems downright impossible if you aren't playing for 12 hours a day or are a savant at flipping. Don't you think a rise of 40b in ~114 days for a blue partyhat is a bit much for a "serious challenge"? You'd need to make hundreds of millions of gp a day every single day to keep up with that price increase, ignoring their already existing value.
I heard something about Jagex releasing the actual number of partyhats on active accounts, would that halt/lower their value? I bet they're a lot more common than most people think.

1. do Dimension of Disaster
2. get 200,000 Zemomarks.
3. purchase mystery gift
4. open mystery gift
5. partyhat obtained
all tradeable partyhats are now worthless because they'll rarely get sold to people outside the merchers/investors/phat market/staking circle (basicaly the get rich lucky / risk it for the biscuit circle) - and they're just status symbols and items for stakers to use to stake invisible priced wealth.

Does anyone remember what exact month and year purple phat was max cash? I remember buying it for max cash stack and a red santa hat and I definitely overpaid back then, but the satisfied feeling I got when I finally had a phat for the first time in my life..

I remember buying purple for 1.1b got bored of it in a week and sold it back. Party hats are nothing special but most who never owned one won't understand and waste their time obtaining one lol.

That's my point- don't you see that as a problem? I don't want it to be that way, nobody but those people do. I was saying that Jagex should do something about it.

I totally agree on that.
There is not that much interesting about a phat besides getting weird pm,s if you turn it to public pm.
trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

The problem might solve itself at some point because if they only trade with each other. eventually they run out of their monopoly money or they just sell them cheaper because no1 bites anymore on such high prices. so in this case. not buying one supports the cause.
i saw a trade yesterday 4 blues for 100 santas, so we could assume ppl are already trying to get rid of their stocks, and even if they dont. if there is no buyer, there is no trade.

Rares seem to be weakening, but high phat valuations are real. You can downgrade and move fully into shards. People walk up with these stacks of shards. Tough to argue with shards.
I hope rares crash hard, but prices aren't quite like y'all are saying.
I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity.
