I think going to steam might have been more of a tactical approach than to gain new players. fundings. ads. etc. ofcourse also for new players. but not just that.
Steam is bullish for rares.
However, rares are currently overpriced. New players added to the game is bullish. Returning older players? I doubt many will return, but maybe.
How about this: New players, and returning older players, is bullish for tokens. Because older players haven't unlocked tokens, and they have the funds to do so.

Just to say, I think it best we "discuss" rares here rather than in the specialised rare discussion thread. Reason: There's no need for a specialised thread. All items interrelate.

Its really nice if it sticky. in the past if i discussed rare topics in the rare section mods referred to here but i could never find my way here. then i found out it got stickied on top making it easy to find. i really hope they could make this sticky for perm and when the thread is full make a new 1 and sticky it again. having these small talks about everything is really nice.
trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

Having a different thread to discuss each item would clutter up the forums.
For example, I just bought a gem sack. A great way to advertise it would be to post a new thread discussing its supposed rarity. However, then we'd have a new thread to discuss an item that almost no one is interested in at its current perceived price. It's so rare that there's no clear market value for it.
A post here, even if no one reads, is all I should be reasonably allowed when advertising, if that makes sense.

Yes, a bit like runes or food like sharks. there isnt really a pc for it but its still something that brings a good discussion onwards. being able to do that here makes the thread like an open area for discussions and ideas

I think Runescape being available on steam is a 50/50 bet in my opinion...it could be a very smart and strategic move to get more people to play--but the question is, realistically how many new players will they attract? I guess it depends on the environment of the gamer on steam in the first place (will they find Runescape appealing to begin with, etc.) Nonetheless, I'm sure we'll see some new players and maybe even some old returning players, probably to a lesser extent though. Long-term, if this works out for them, I see it as bullish for rares and the overall economy as a whole, but as Trip180 said, at the moment, I don't know many people who want to pay current prices for rares, especially partyhats and the like--even if it is easier to make money these days. So I believe it's going to be a wait-and-see kind of ordeal. It will be interesting either way and time will tell which way everything goes.
