The accounts are hacked by doxxing the owners/gaining access to their mail/paypal/whatever, it's just that steams support is a lot more lax with removing any authentication on the steam account granting access to your rs account.

I agree that unlinking is the correct action and I really hope Jagex will comment on it. But I highly doubt that since there's no inherent flaws in the security systems at play.

It really sucks that you have to be extremely careful with not revealing any information, especially since hackers often gain information from small streamers by talking and acting nice to them :(

I wonder how much this will affect on the player base that came through steam. i remember the release being a real hype but now it feels like another flaw is the only way to look at it which is really sad. obviously sharing any info with other people is dangerous, imagine giving your pincode to your best friend and 1 week later you discover that you lost all your savings. the best way to deal with that is not giving ur pincode right?. personally linking accounts or any indirect process can be dangerous if your not sure about it. i didnt link my twitch with my rs account for that reason. maybe im too cautious but this seems like a good example of why cautiousness can be a savior. trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

I know you can't explain how hackers operate, but anyway. Hacker notes: Raphtalia6 has poofy hair. Tuffty has bad knees. One day, these notes will be worth phats. just kidding... I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity. :(

Heyy! i use hair lotion for that oke :( .

not that it matters if the air is dry xD.

the only thing i wonder if hackers could bypass the authenticator and bankpin without the users phone.

i know they can turn both off which takes a few days but they cant access your account if they dont have the authenticator code, even if they get your email they still need to enter that code when they use your login stuff.

on another note, how is summer going for everyone?.

here the sun is nice and people here are close to their final vaccination so i hope things will get better. trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

The claim now is it'll keep mutating, and updated vaccines will keep being released. Eventually a better balance will be reached, but as I understand it, it will always be here, just like the flu and common cold. Just a quick rundown of how I understand the steam hacking.

There is no cooldown on removing steam authenticator, and hackers can access your account the second your auth is gone.

Steam support will accept personal information such as where you live, your previous passwords, your bank provider etc.. as a form of proof that it's really you, and then remove your steam authenticator.

Any information about you can be used to look up your other accounts you use on other websites and their passwords. Which hackers then use to contact steam by pretending to be you having lost access to your steam account.

I'm not sure if this is correct but another person might be able to access your in game bank without pin right after you log off as it won't ask again for 5 mins.
