On my last point, the only rare items that will perform well in the future are those that have a cosmetic appeal to players, as well as being a status symbol. These would be, for example, partyhats, of course, which still look great even with the new cosmetic overrides, and have a long standing history as a symbol of wealth. Items like black santa hats and red santa hats should also perform well given the new reality and demand for items in the game based largely on cosmetics.
More proof of these facts are in the rise of the red santa hat and purple partyhats. The red santa hat used to be about the same.price as the green hween mask. Now it is double its price even though it is incredibly more common than any of the hween masks. Same with the rise of the purple prtyhat. This item, for over a decade, was the cheapest of the partyhats, due to it being the most reproduced during the duplication glitch of 2003. Suddenly it is rising in price, well above yellow, even green.
Why? Cosmetic appeal, which is the most important driver of demand for these item now.
Think of all of the edible rare items too. Like the pumpkin, for example, which under the Christmas cracker and half wine, is likely one of the most rare items in the game, yet it is only hanging at around half a bil -less then the very common santa hat. Why? Again, no cosmetic appeal. You cannot wear it, and so, there is no demand.
Players still like the idea of owning a rare item these, but they also want it to look good, and they want to be able to show it off.
Show someone a pumpkin 10 years ago and it was a source of respect and admiration. Show someone a pumpkin in trade in 2019, and you will get the responses: "that's uselsss" or, "what the heck is that?" If that doesn't sum up the new sentiment towards the rare items market, I dont know what does.
