Now more than ever, there needs to be clarity around Discontinued items. The Discontinued item Wiki page https://runescape.wiki/w/Discontinued_rare_items has been stripped down to nothing except RS Classic rares and the Golden Partyhat due to policy changes on what they, the Wiki, are "Defining Discontinued" as. Personally I, and I'm sure many others, feel that many of the items that were removed from these poor policy decisions did not deserve to be removed since they are sort of a "Grandfathered in" Discontinued items, notably, the Black Santa Hat, Christmas Scythe, Holly Wreath, Fish masks , as well as others.

I call on Jagex to step in, and finally address the issue of Discontinued (tradeable) item clarity, and polish the Discontinued item status of certain items(or else rerelease them, but you will lose a lot of players IMO). There should be no way items like the ones mentioned above get rereleased purely based on their age alone, but also considering the time, effort, and cost players have sunk into obtaining these items in the present day.

Make a statement , confirm what you can at the very least. Even if the statement is "After 10 years of an items Initial release, we will confirm its discontinued status", which would be fair considering 10 years is almost half of Runescapes entire existence.

For reference, this is what the Discontinued item Wiki page looked like a few days ago before the Wiki team implemented their policy change around Defining Discontinued items, and are the items in question: https://runescape.wiki/w/Discontinued_rare_items?oldid=35968573

I hope that Jagex will finally give us the clarity we deserve, and stop predatory actions by calling items "Rare" when they are not in fact rare(Seriously Jagex, the Green Santa Outfit pieces were called rare, and they're not even remotely rare). Players used to called items "Rare/Rares" meaning they were discontinued, and now Jagex uses the term rare as if items are common.

Entries on this page are made and deleted by players, probably merchers. I used to add rares to this page to suit my agenda, and other people used to and still do. As we can see some golden partyhat mercher has recently re-added golden partyhat. This page is not a good reflection of what is or isn't discontinued because runescape wiki is made by players

Recently, people of the wiki (players) have come up with a policy around "Defining Discontinued", and essentially removing every item that isn't confirmed by Jagex from that page. The intent of this post is for Jagex to take action and confirm items which belong on this list. The intent behind the Wiki for making these changes is so that it is *Accurate*. That shouldn't be too much to ask for, accurate information from the game creators.

They use marketing to make people have FOMO.

They write in their little news article that a new "rare" is coming not "discontinued item"

Bit Scummy but that's how Jagex are they want to milk the players out of money.

nothing is discontinued and can be rereleased at any point in time jagex wants to.

there's your answer, stop making these useless threads that you have a 0% chance of getting a response to or ever a answer from a jagex mod.

as they said in the past Og Holiday Items (Phats, Masks, Edibles, Cracker) became a mistake and they'll never have that happen again to any item in the future.
Don't trust any pc's listed, any advice or talks between posts on ID forums anymore , the Manips are let loose, especially the main one with 15+ accounts posting acting as different people.. do your own research

The Wiki is player run and as such anyone can edit it if you can.

There is a list of Discontinued items that Jagex have confirmed and has been on the Forums for years and is used by who ever wants to use it and can't be edited by Community people only F-Mods.

RuneScape Trading Directory

As for whats in the wiki I'd personaly take it all with a pinch of salt. Items can be added on a whim and removed when manipulated enough. So Reasearch is key.

The chances of Jagex saying Item X will be a rare is very slim and very rare it happens.

Remember any item can be released if and when Jagex want too as they have done so in the past with other items.

Won't happen it affects their sales, they want to be able to re-release an item whenever they want its easy cash for them. Let's say a TH item is trading at 1b+ players believe the item is limited some are even hoarding it demand is high for it, they can re-release and sell a decent number of keys. If they start making statements such as this item will be back, or it is not discontinued, prices won't rise as much which makes it harder to sell keys next time it's released. If you are hoarding an TH item, you are likely helping jagex keep the price up for the next release lol.

Anyone can edit the Wiki, however, people use the Wiki as a
guide
since much of the information on it is helpful.

Is that an "Official" confirmed list of Discontinued items by Jagex? From my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong here Tuffty, Forum Moderators are Players just like RS Wiki admins, not employees of Jagex, so unless explicitly confirmed by Jagex, that directory could potentially be inaccurate as well.

Every thing thats discontiniued within that list has been confirmed over the year by Jagex as Discontinied. Hence the F-Mod made list thats been used for years by the Community to keep track of where items belong etc.

When We or the Community find out something has been confirmed a discontinued item it's added to the list so everyone knows.

Hope that helps.
