Maybe after obtaining a green, people come to like it less.
If poor people could buy hats, they'd pick green. The people with the money don't like green. Hats are so hoarded. Maybe someone hoarded one colour or another.
Purple seems super popular, though common.
During the phat crash of... whenever, yellow bottomed below purple. They flipped back to normal during the recovery. Few know this!
I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity.
I feel like it's mainly just the colour of them and which ones are more appealing to people. I personally like the blue, white and red more than the yellow, green and purple

You get tired of whichever colour you own. When keepsakes first arrived, I keepsaked a blue. I grew to really hate blue.
I dunno if I had other phats then or what. I probably did, but I wore blue dunging. Maybe we could only keepsake one hat at a time then? I just remember blue making me sick. Now, I like blue again.

One quick comment: The peak of blue used to be 3x purples. I guess blue was then hoarded. Today, 3x purple is impossible, unthinkable, for blue. Peak blue today is maybe 2x red, if that.
I guess hoarders matter, and little buyers matter also. If white stays popular, maybe it'll one day pass blue, like santa passing h'weens.

If I had a female char, I'd maybe want yellow. It matches the gem necklace. Very nice. Purple might work with shadow gem necklace. Gem neck doesn't look right on a boy.
New item sets might influence which hat is popular. I still like dragon armour, but I'm about the only one. Red h'ween and red phat are still popular, but they were once maybe more popular for matching dragon.
Merching is most fun when trying to figure demand like this.

Phats are so expensive that players will pursue only the top hat (blue), rather than a phat set as before. (Phat set no longer easily obtainable with a little effort.)
***Yellow Theory*** (current)
Phats are even more expensive. Players now struggle to obtain a Santa, let alone a phat. As such, the lowest phats should rise to meet the others. If players want green/purple, it's an easy upgrade from yellow.
***Future Theory***
Players struggle to obtain fish masks and crowns of seasons.

Can't see people wanting a fish mask let alone struggling to get one.
In my opinion they are very ugly and unlikely to ever be a status symbol
Crown of seasons maybe, but there are so many other pretty/collectible headwear in the 1m-2000m, don't see why one particular one would be in more demand than the others.

It was a joke really. I dunno what people will aim for. Jagex has released so many tokens and rarish items; it's tough to say.
But imagine, 20 years from now, will fish masks be easily obtainable? Perhaps, yes.

There are alot of smaller games that have more ingame items and wealth that has a high real world worth value. Runescape has a huge playerbase compared to the rest of the gamer marked, and many of the Runescapes playerbase are in teens or older. Its obvious that some ingame items would have a high value, not just ingame. I can also understand that some will even sell off partyhats for real life wealth, due to worldwide situation (economy and workmarked).
