Im thinking more towards greater than 5k, still extremely rare. Santas grotto TH promo will see a increase in wrapping paper, and mayhaps higher paper drop rate/amount (not officially confirmed but mentioned). compound that with people spending keys for the wreath and scythe. knowing jagex the hat might even be one of the prizes in the promo.

What if they add the wreath and scythe to the golden gifts and thereby make the green santa hats rarer? It would explain why they would increase the Christmas paper amounts, to prevent the green santa hats from becoming even rarer.

dont think they can change rarity as some people have paid so much for keys, they wouldnt want to ruin things for people paying big money to win one
if they made them more common wouldnt they loose customers

It will be interesting to see if, and how this will affect the quantity of green santa hats entering the game. There are some important variables to consider:

1- The rate of buff (i.e 1% - 100%) - If the buff is substantial, this could increase the amount of farming. Although we've seen people use thousands of keys and get 0 golden presents.

2- The Grotto TH Promo - This should result in a surge of TH key purchases and a large influx of papers along with this increased activity. This should result in more gsh being added into the game.

We've seen the price go from 5b down to about 3b in three days due to this news. Another question to ask, "Is gsh currently pricing this in appropriately?". I personally think that even with the paper buff, these are still incredibly rate and likely to be valuable in the short-term. If the buff isn't substantial, it wouldn't surprise me if these went in the upward direction again.

It's true, one of my best friends sold it for 4.8 couple days ago and there were multiple sales like that but it didn't stay long before it went to 4.2-4.3 the next day.
The action or process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired.

My guess would be they keep it simple and simply double the amount of paper from skilling activitys. After all its only 1 week. Maybe they have some sort of target for the amount of GSH coming into the game. Actuall numbers staying behind expected numbers and then make up for it by adjusting the rate. Or it could be a special christmas promotion that they had planned all along.

Sadly, Jagex confirmed that it will come back, just not when. Source is on Reddit by Modhooli.
I believe it will be back again next Christmas since they are earning a lot of money from bonds/spins.
They are a company after all.
