They're going to change penguin hunting?? Why? Imo it doesn't need changing, I enjoy the D & D just as it is and I'm sure other people do too. Is it a case of change for change's sake? *sigh* :|

Speaking as someone who was a member for the first time only two and a half years ago and can speak from reasonably recent experience, I'm convinced that the reason is because, in its current form, Penguin Hide and Seek is a pretty daunting piece of content for anyone who doesn't know about the FCs/Subreddit/etc. to try to get their heads around.

I mean, between how large the wander range is for any given penguin (see: Al Kharidian penguins being easily able to wander as far as the Wilderness Ditch and the Taverly wall, or Feldip Penguins possibly getting as far north as the Arctic Hunter area if left to their own devices), clues being limited to the randomly provided ones given by Larry and Chuck, and the fact that the D&D has such little information provided in-game, you're pretty much thrown to the wolves if you don't know about the Penguin Hunting community.

That's almost certainly the reason why almost all of the planned updates are geared towards new/inexperienced Penguin hunters and why a lot of us experienced Hunters aren't going to be using them much -- they're not for us . They're for everyone else.

I don't know any details of the changes because I haven't found
any
official information in these forums. If the current way of hunting is still going to survive then that's OK as I'd hate to see the existing FC's and co-operative playing style die out.

It could be that not a lot changes, it's hard to tell but looking at the stream all the changes together made it to me look like the fun gameplay elements were disappearing.

Clan seemed more worried about the zapper but apparently they've changed that slightly pre release and suggested they're open to changing it post release depending how it plays out. Pachuli has a good point about the 2 new pengs being single player and weirdly the ghost may now be the easiest to spy.

I assume they'll put up a news post on the forums tomorrow after they say what the second part of monday's update is.

Might have been nice to not have the changes in a surprise stream 2 weeks before release, I thought they normally did dev blogs earlier in development for these types of changes.

Generally it's a good thing to future proof this whole thing.

- Lamp based xp instead of the previous linear scaling will keep it viable for higher levels. It's actually fairly generous after the rework and I could imagine this alone would get some players playing who just wouldn't bother with the current xp rates.
- The coin reward also was beefed up significantly - maybe it would've helped if that was also based on your total level, but 50k per penguin point isn't too shabby.
- Chance for clues - awesome!
- Unlockables - fairly standard cosmetics (albeit more transmogs are cool) as well as something to help you with the d&d
- Penguins being tracked would allow both for using it as a competition element (sadly jagex is reluctant when it comes to more highscores, so players would need to flex off ingame), as well as further reward extensions - they did something comparable with the PvM hub a couple of months after it was initially released - with a system building on something that is trackable for quite a few years now.

In regards of gameplay:

- Penguin hints being made more useful is a good thing.
- Scan is a nice reward for having done the d&d a bit, but maybe it would've been better if it was swapped with one of the cosmetics, as well as not being unlocked initially.
- Not sure what I should think about that zap thing, that must really show how(if?) it will work out.
Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
Quick Fixes: Invention

I have enjoyed penguin hide & seek for years. Back in the early days when it wasn't known what locations the penguins would show up at every week, I even had the pleasure of helping hunt them at reset. I have met some great people over the years hunting penguins! I truly hope they don't ruin it. I really don't understand why they are changing it, it seems perfectly fine the way it is.

One D&D that could use a change is Tears of Guthix - it is truly annoying for the small amount of xp you get. While Penguin Hide & Seek doesn't grant huge xp, at least it's fun and can be done in groups. And I'm not complaining about the amount of xp from penguins - everything does not have to give you a million xp. For me it's more about it being something enjoyable to do with friends.
