They might be nerfing the xp too hard or not i havent checked it out yet but glad im 120 all.

Some mobs, especially at higher level are going to get less xp. Some mobs, especially at early and mid levels will get more xp. Bosses and summoner mobs, are in general, getting more xp, or significant more in some cases.

Besides, Mod Sponge said they will continue to monitor community feedbacks. He also said new players should find the new xp rate easy and they can one shot mobs just with basic abilities.

How will this affect invention xp for leveling augmented items? Are we going to have to spend 3x as long to level items for comps?

Should be the same as they level up based on damage done. If you are killing a monster that has 3x the hp then it will take you 3x longer to finish the slayer/boss drop logs.

I'm definitely not liking some of these changes...

Deadly Red Spiders - More LP, Much more damage, and Less XP awarded. Uh.. no thanks. That seems like unused content right there, unless I'm just reading it wrong. Same with the Mature Grotworm. And several others I've commonly used for training.

As an HCIM, I'm going to need to be extra vigilant after Monday to avoid stumbling into something I wasn't expecting ... and probably will need to change some of my go-to monsters.

Mod Sponge has more details why they "restatted monsters in the early/mid game (and is something i want to continue doing"

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/15b51x9/necromancy_insights_combat/jtsdsjd/?context=3

We are going to get better early/mid game experience with the new changes, and more importantley he added:

"That being said post-launch, I may look into adding XP mods to some monsters (things that come to mind are things like mammoths that force you into 1v1, or are slightly more awkward to AoE etc.) To make up for the changes (though, they weren't remotely competing with something like abyssal lords previously, they could be in a better spot.)"

As I mentioned a few days ago, and now Mod Sponge confirmed, they will continue to make changes post-launch, and they are looking to add xp mods to higher tiered and slayer mobs.

Ok so I stand corrected so I removed my original post. After reviewing more in depth the lower levels actually seem to benefit in most areas outside of the newbie area. Trolls in the Burthorp cave are horrendous XP but the cows make up for that. I saw on average an increase of XP in most lower level mobs.

However I believe there still needs to be a change that incorporates the difficulty of the mobs aka either raise the HP of CL 30 mobs so they give more xp than CL 4 or come up with a way to balance things because higher level mobs that do more damage, have higher risk, and take longer to kill shouldn't give the same XP as lower level mobs with the same amount of LP that can be almost insta killed. That just doesn't seem balanced to me at all.

Good that you see basically what I quoted Mod Sponge. As a new combat style, Jagex have made the early game experience BETTER for all players as everybody starts at level 1 Necromancy. In fact, a lot of the low to mid tier mobs are BUFFED, not nerfed.

XP from most bosses are buffed significantly too, many mid to high level bosses are worthy training methods for combat now.

They also said the next step is to balance out higher level mobs. The new blogs are coming soon, and then the actual changes.
