Although we call some people birdbrains, I really doubt Avainsies are so dumb to hop from island to island in Addinah when they can fly. :D :D :D

Nobody can use a lodestone or fairy ring without first getting to them, otherwise if we could just use the lodestone to get to Anachronia, we would not have to wait 10+ years for the stupid Varrock NPCs to build a barge.

You do understand that all the islands and any settlements on them are constantly moving?
Do you also understand that self-powered flight takes significantly more metabolic energy almost by necessity than running?

Hopping between islands is like catching a bus or ferry to get close to another city.
Flying the whole way would be like running cross country at a full sprint.

The physical toll of flying just isn't feasible for long distances (especially when carrying supplies) even before one considers the danger of running into a storm with no islands in sight.

Lodestones generally (Tuska's world event showed that didn't have to be the case) work that way, sure (also, we had to build the Anachronia lodestone, which is why it couldn't be used).

Teleport spells don't.

Portals don't.

Fairy rings only require you to get to one to start and then put in the code for any other for your destination (even ones you've personally never been to before).

You seem to be missing the point that teleportation options don't necessitate that the user visit the destination first.

I mean, just consider for a moment the mechanical difficulties in moving any significant amount of weight via aviation (we've only recently managed to achieve that irl with any reasonable degree of speed with the invention of the plane).

We've managed to somewhat accomplish that in game via the hot air balloon network and gnome gliders/copters, but those are far more recent developments than teleportation and portals.

What is more likely than any Aviansie developing flying Inventions prior to a teleportation network is for them to have tamed larger flying beasts of burden (larger wingspans means more gliding and reliably catching thermals to ease the energy cost of flying: think albatrosses) much like the giant eagle network on Gielinor.

Mechanical difficulties? In real life, humans learned how to fly from birds and insects. Aerodynamic is actually pretty simple in Gielinor. We already have hot air balloons and gliders for years. Recently, we built a barge to get to Anachronia and it was revealed we already have an "engine" powered by divination energies.

All the pieces are there. We have all the technologies to lift ourselves off the round, glide through places and propel our flying objects with divination energies in different directions.

What about the flying carpets we use in the desert? With Invention tech, and the "engine" mentioned from the barge, maybe it's possible to add to those.

Sure it can be an idea. Alternatively, we can put the engine on our wings and weeeee... our wings are no longer just cosmetics, we can fly. ;)

They showed Stormgarde on "The Road to Archaeology video 3" released today.

Interestingly, there seems to be flying machines hobbling outside the Citadel In the Sky. Timbo also referred it as the "Area 51" of Runescape... and interestingly Area 51 is the test site for US Aircrafts and long rumored to be the secret lab for researches on UFOs. Well, we may be able to fly after 18 years of Runescape afterall. :D

So what you say is that the gnome glider, hot air balloon's and the eagles just do not existed in the 18 years of Runescape?

The only air traffic thing that got removed in the years are the gnome copters.

No we were already a long time able to fly in runescape do not worry about that.

Still fairy rings, teleports and portals did already transport us to far away places like:
Mazcab, clan citadels, Zanaris (the moon) and the back of a huge flying planet eating god.

Did you read through the posts on the first 2 pages:

"It seems that if we choose to proceed with this excavation, we’ll need to take an inventive approach. If Stormguard Citadel is accessible at all, it’ll be floating several miles above Gielinor – and I doubt there’ll be a neatly marked path to follow while we’re there! Thankfully, I have a cunning plan..."

We are talking about
FLYING HIGH IN RS3
as in Aviation Technologies or riding a strong flying beast, not just "flying" in hot air ballon.

Well, it seems like flying machines are more plausible than flying dinos now. :)

The Stormguard Citadel developer blog revealed the Stormguard Citadel is several miles above ground level and there is no known technology in Gielinor that can get us there.

magic portal

job done.

(you realise clan citadels are also that high in the air, and you also access them by a magic portal right?)
