Opt-in pvp is fresh idea. Zeah is all about stale recycled ideas.

I don't know how long was "a while ago", and if you are talking about the annual poll a few years ago, then Zeah is dead as the developers said since then when they add a new continent it will have fresh ideas and new content for RS3 players. It will be like Anachronia with distinct stories and gameplays like baes camp, dinosaurs, BGH, new travel networks via Agility and Archaeology etc that we don't find elsewhere in RS3 and Zeah.

The reception of Zeah was very poor, and understandable so as rehashing boring old content in Menaphos wasn't very successful. Content in Zeah would be even more unimpressive than Menaphos.

We will have new maps and continents in RS3, but not the ones rehashing dead content like Menaphos and Zeah. They will be like Anachronia with new content we haven't seen in other maps, or they can expand Stormguard and make a 3D Gielinor.

The only viable comparison between Zeah in Old School and Menaphos in RS3 is that both use very similar, understandably despised reputation systems that force players to spend time in the area that they do not want to.

From there though, the reason many players didn't like Menaphos wasn't that it was unsuccessful, but that it took up far too much of Jagex's efforts all at once, and that it was that it wasn't content that was designed for them in the first place. When you introduce a "mid-level skilling hub" to a game that is decisively unbalanced toward players that are higher leveled, you will see dissatisfaction. Even still, there's great updates like the Sophanem Slayer Dungeon and Sunken Pyramid that see regular use by such players that are tied to Menaphos - and we're all basically awaiting the finale quest for the desert eagerly at this point.

---

Zeah was released as a very unnatural large square landmass initially, and it had an even more finicky reputation system (any such thing is going to be the cause of consternation) in which gaining favor with one house cost you some from others (which has since been changed.) However, Zeah has a much larger appeal than Menaphos over there because its playerbase isn't all shepherded into the endgame, and all of its amenities are thus able to be used with more regularity. Wintertodt is a skilling boss that is encouraged to be done right off of Tutorial Island , while players will be exploring the Chambers of Xeric in the endgame.

It was released without quests that built its lore outside of the Xeric/Council of Kourend saga, which has been fixed in later updates somewhat.

Is there a NEED for RS3 to release Zeah any time soon? No. However, merchandise out there suggests the two Gielinors may have more geographical similarity than some in either of our communities think it should. It's not a zero percent chance the game ever gets Zeah. Just needs a good reason.

RS3 doesn't need Zeah.
We still have other areas (ie: Karamja, Varrock, ARdougne, Yanille) that still need major graphical updates (and I'm not just talking about the ground appearance update they did recently.)

In addition, The Wushanko Isles are still an area we can expand into first without bringing in yet another unknown area such as anacrhonia (which was originally fossil/kudos island).

RS3 won't have Zeah and Fossil Island just like OSRS won't have Anachronia. They want the two games to be different and specifically for RS3, they don't want to create new maps just to aimlessly rehash very old content repeatedly. They cited cost as the reason not to do so, and they are absolutely right when RS3 can and should use the heavy cost to rehash old content to create new ones and remaster old ones to appeal to even more present players and new players coming in the future.

I do think they could make an unique Zeah for RS3 - not just in terms of content, but also for a storyline, but yeah... there are just so many other places I would want to go to instead. Acheron, more of the arc, other worlds (albeit that's probably out of the question anyway with their focus on a smaller scope).

No honestly I think it's nice, that both games have their unique places to be - and our take on anachronia certainly is as unique as their fossil island would be. If it fits - gladly, but unique stuff just is better.

Why Zeah when we can make over 9,000 similarly useless and featureless new maps?

If Zeah was good, OSRS would have create new content out of it.

Even OSRS can't find anything new to add to Zeah, it is dead content. We don't need dead OSRS content in RS3.

Dilbert, you're just wrong on all three counts there.

1. useless and featureless? There's a skilling boss that is accessible with a mere 50 Firemaking by any level, an endgame raid, a unique Slayer mob in Lizardmen Shamans that are the only source for the meta-defining Dragon Warhammer, a Woodcutting Guild, a Farming Guild, several unique cities, a handful of dungeons that are great for training Combat and Slayer, and unique alternative ways to train skills like Farming (Tithe Farm), Mining (Blast Mining), and Cooking (Hosidius Mess Hall). If you were referring to features in the geographical sense, there's volcanic landscapes, woodsy areas that are different from elsewhere in Gielinor, farmlands that feel expansive, swamps, tundras, etc.

2. Zeah's most recent updates are quests in the "Twisted Tales" saga. The saga's latest entry, "Garden of Death", was released in November of last year. That would qualify as pretty recent new content by RS3 standards. Our newest boss encounter (Zamorak) was released that summer, months earlier.

3. I don't think you can look at Wintertodt (which gets far more engagement than even Croesus as a skilling boss due to the player count OSRS has as well as its place in being the meta for early-game ironmen to obtain starting resources.) or Chambers of Xeric (an endgame raid that sources the game's best mage gear and most expensive drop in the Twisted Bow (assuming the Shadow from ToA hasn't overtaken it.)), or the completely necessary House Favor system for players trying to obtain critical upgrades and/or the Quest Cape - and call the entire area "dead content."

"We don't need dead OSRS content in RS3."

Zeah sees more players accessing it than the Inferno, and RS3 turns around and releases TzKal-Zuk into the game despite that.

We can argue all day about whether or not the final Elder God Wars Dungeon boss needed to be Zuk, but it was a pretty good move at a time where OSRS players' eyes were wandering.
