Yes, time based vs xp drops is a lot better. (for me)
Missing out on progress is a negative feeling, and it urges me to do something I wouldn't normally do. Even though I am in the game being very productive. There's just no xp involved in my activities.
Beyond that, the details are confusing. They said I get 3 drops for my first key, but upon further review it looks like 1 drop for every 4 keys. 3 drops per week total.
That's one of the gaming features that blows my mind. Conversion of currencies. Instead of making something that requires ONE they make it so a random amount equals one. So people can 'just miss it'. Only needed 5 more minutes. Maybe I can do better next time.
Even more mind-blowing is how overused the feature of unlocking a chest with keys has become. I'm pretty sure every game on the planet offers it now, we have multiple versions in RS.
There is also a problem when you give away too much. It's a thought to be had right now with this Presents From The Sledge where xp lamps are falling out of the sky like hailstones, putting a dent on everything they touch.
If you give away too much to everyone, and the related sales go down, that is a mistake that should be avoided in the future. You don't make up for it elsewhere. Because riots.
