Protean planks- worthless? Thread is locked

I’m kinda upset by the lack of any warning with changing protean planks to such a degree. It was an all around nerf and just before dxp. You cannot even use them to save you money anymore by using them in your fort to make various different kinds of planks for construction.

A heads up, would have been nice, that’s all I am saying. Hawk l

We are actually gaining more, up to 2.25 times construction xp per plank with the new update. This is really great for players training construction with the conventional plank methods, especially with DXP Live.

The tradeoff is we can't use protean planks in some of the newest construction training methods as well as money making activities.

As usual, we can convert Protean Planks to other Protean items at a 3 to 2 rates, if you prefer.

Yeah the protean planks nerf really really sucks. I always used them for everything when I could. Now they are kinda useless. The ONLY option I get when I try to use them anywhere is to make toyboxes. I made 2 but can't find them anywhere. lol. What a rip off. Go Jagex! Thanks for your time, I never seem to have enough of my own.

Agreed. I would have turned all of my protean planks into frames if they had just told us instead of randomly nerfing it. We need to know about nerfs the next week in the future so players can dump that item if it's becoming less useful in a upcoming update.

The nerf needed to happen.

Proteans have taken up a much larger part of training nowadays, and this has a negative effect on the economy. It's no wonder prices of raw materials are relatively low now.

Here's hoping they'll hit the other protean items with nerfs, and possibly reducing the number given out on Treasure Hunter.

Yep, it's ridiculous to make them useless with no warning. I bet they were intending for everyone to go chop down trees in their fancy new grove for planks, but forgot to put any teak or mahogany trees in there. If it's so magic surely the climate should be suitable for teak and mahogany trees to flourish there.

Agreed. An item that has functioned like it has for multiple years only to suddenly get completely changed into something else does indeed warrant a pre-notice.
I mean, there obviously has to be a reason why they didn't change them into what they are now a few weeks after release. Or, a while after the release of Construction Contracts.

One of the main reasons that I've seen for this nerf was due to how it was possible to turn them into frames that could then be sold, effectively turning proteans into a money making method. Something that I can agree should never be the case (and never took advantage of myself personally).
However, rather than just making the protean planks create an untradeable version such as protean frames, they instead do this.

And of course, it does indeed suck that they don't work for contracts either anymore. But 1. I'm hoping that that was simply a mistake and that Jagex'll eventually allow them to be used for those again and 2. I've already fully completed that bit of content so it is a whatever for me.

Poor performance indeed.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

This won't help us to get 2.25 times construction xp per protean plank.

They didn't just nerf protean planks. They trade off between money making and xp. We don't make money with protean planks now but we gain a lot more xp per plank.

If they had given an heads up for this, players would have converted billions of them into frames over those few days given. It's just a fact, that those things worked entirely different than any other given protean - in a way, which was really unhealthy for construction and its assorted materials.

I guess they're still worth being used for some construction task during yak tracks. Are the xp rates still comparable - or at least viable? Or are they so bad, it's not even worth bothering doing construction tasks anymore. Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
