The ticking sound is happening again, but this time it's here where my laptop is, not sure where it is coming from. it starts and stops intermittingly only lasting a few seconds. It's only just started up and it's been going for just over a minute I would say. I wonder if it's coming from my pc??

I am now turning off the volume <- nope turned of volume and it's still ticking intermittingly :| I am stumped...

Edit again: Nope, not from my pc, got music on so I don't have to listen to the ticking.

Kinda sounds like a cooling fan to me since those turn on and off automatically depending on temperatures inside the unit (hence the ticking sound coming and going). You could test this by going in to your system performance settings and turning cooling fans from passive to active. If the ticking is constant from that result then that's the culprit.

I turned it all off, pulled everything out of the wall socket and the pc was turned off and still the ticking noise - I've never heard it at this side of the house before. The last time was my bookshelf which hasn't happened again. But this time it's a lot louder, it stops and goes and more annoying :|

I will check what you stated Mobius 1 and see if I can find the cooling fans, Thank you :)

I can't find the performance settings or cooling fans.

I’d have to be at the computer to grab some guding images for you, the individual setting that controls how the fans behave is well within the advanced power settings area. If your computer is Windows it’d be in the control panel. If the ticking didn’t go away a few minutes or so after turning off the pc then that ain’t it like I originally thought from what you described. Just thought it was because on my old pc when the fans started to fail it’d tick intermittently.

(Just entering work, it’ll be a few hours before I get back to the forums.)

The boys are at there dads this week.

I took my pc to another area of my house and the ticking continued, so it is definitely not my pc. The ticking lasted for more than several hours. Anyway I moved 2 tins and a box of tea bags and the noise stopped O_o One of the tins were dented and I am wondering if a dented tin of tuna can make a ticking noise?? O_o Crazy stuff I'm telling ya ^_^ Anyway I have since brought the tins and box of tea bags back and the ticking has not started up again...

Really weird stuff...
