Okay, so, if the heater is beside the bookcase, what could be happening is that while the wood expands, the ticking is the sound of the nails in the wood slowly slipping, just enough to make the small ticking sound. It's not uncommon.
Or, as Fifi noted, it might be some kind of bug.
