Mmm yes, wooden effect laminate is noisy. Mine is real wood and the dogs make barely any noise on it. Different acoustic effects produced by different materials, presumably. Possibly also because they don't run anywhere these days; they are rather elderly and trundle sedately from one place to another.
Interesting about the parrots - the adventurous one hopping happily into a new situation, the cautious one hanging back and pondering possible outcomes.
Been doing some research on parrots and their bad habbits... Seems Alfie (African Gray) has a bad habbit of chewing and shredding news paper and making a right mess. So I leave him too it as I've read it's natural for them to do so.
The only thing I am worried about is the feather plucking. He's not too bad but does pull out a few on his legs and chest and top of his neck. It needs more research on this as I've no idea.
My other parrot Billy has never plucked feathers and he seems very happy. Except he now bites me after 10-12 years of sitting on my shoulder watching me play RS.
Blimey, just did a quick Google on feather plucking. Just about anything can set it off.
Too much, or too little, of pretty much all environmental factors
Yep thats why I need an expert as I can't fathom it out....
He's on a vitamin suppliment I add to his water and been on it a week. It was remomended by a vet. So see if that works first and if not try something else lol.....
Edit to add 2 pictures.
Can't really see his bald patchs but he sure does like the new carpet. Even plays with the dog lol.

My poor flowers got a bashing a few days ago and I lost some as they snapped at the roots. I'll know for next year to stake them sooner rather then later.
and it's nails on the floor sound odd. It runs from 1 end of the house and stops in the middle and still carries on till the other end. It loves the flooring and has so much fun.
I'm sorry to hear Alfie is having trouble with the carpeting. Hope he/she gets used to it soon. Although pets are individuals and can have issues with stuff that never resolve. I'm sure you won't have that problem, tho.
Like your sister, I have a 'thingy'. Actually two 'thingys'. And also fake wooden floors, aka laminate. I have terrific fun watching them run but not go anywhere because of it. Or slide around corners. The funniest time (which I didn't get on camera cuz I was freaking out) was when my sweet thingy found a mouse running around my house. He was a hero keeping a keen eye on it whilst I was screaming. But at one point he spotted it and tried to chase it, but his little paws just kept running in place like a cartoon. Even though I was too traumatized to appreciate it at the time, I still remember his valiant efforts and how I should have been laughing instead of screaming at a pitch too high for even dogs to hear.
Hmm, a dog that eats my books and rugs or a thingy that makes an odd sound while trying to save my life from a mouse.
Haha yeah, my friend's Labrador does that when he tries to get up a head of steam on her laminate.
She's decided to go back to carpet when money permits because his toenails have scratched it to hell in a few places ..... clumsy great lump that he is!
We did have laminate in the kitchen/diner a few years back but it didn't like being mopped all the time, damp got down into the joints and it 'blew' in a few places. So there we've got good ole fashioned lino instead - damn near bomb-proof.
My 10 year old has his first night time under the lights rugby game tonight - I thought this was quite exciting, and I asked him why he's not pleased with this, and he said he tired in the evenings. So I hope he enjoys it once we get there.
