I realize this is probably futile considering what's underlined in their policy in regards to Diango, but I've seen people claim that support is willing to fix player stupidity from time to time.

Is there any chance Jagex would be willing to un-modify skilling headgear? I realize there is a very clear warning that the action cannot be undone and I accepted that risk, but allow me to explain. This is due to a lack of information on the subject in which I made the error.

You see, I like the look of some skilling pieces and want to keepsake them. After some research I found out that trying to do so will save a 'copy' rather than lock away the item. I did this for the Blacksmith's mask before modifying it, because I found the modification to be ugly. I now have an unmodified mask in keepsakes and a modified item in my bank. Perfect.

Now, I wanted to keepsake the Botanist's mask too. Difference is, I was fine with the modified look. So I modified it and tried keepsaking afterwards... and this is where the problem lies. Nothing I read told me that once modified, the keepsake box would now lock away the item instead of making a copy... and for a skilling piece, you can see why that's not acceptable. I can't use its benefits from keepsakes. Furthermore, I can't reclaim a second copy from Diango; it tells me I already own it in my keepsake box if I want it back.

I'm willing to eat the loss of my key, but I'd rather not be forced to choose between form over function in regards to the item. Am I completely SoL here or is this something Jagex would at all be willing to consider?

As you said yourself ... there are warnings present in RuneScape which give you time to think things over. Nevertheless I will forward you to this page Lost Items ... <- (link) in '
Jagex's Support Centre
' and see if you can try your luck there, as there's nothing more to do if you disregarded said warnings in RuneScape.

Taken directly from the lost items.

Limitations
It's against our policy to return items when:

You were hijacked or scammed. Follow our security advice to prevent this from happening again
The loss can't be verified or is fraudulent
The request includes the following types of items:
Temporary holiday event items
Items recoverable from Diango
Unique quest items
Certain pets
XP granting items
Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

It's quite weird that modified skilling headgear behaves so differently compared to the unmodified.

If you were to make a thread in the suggestion forums for modified skilling headgear to also create a copy when keepsaked, I would support it, and perhaps others too.

I tried my luck with a lost item claim. Despite what their policy says in regards to Diango, the ticket itself allows you to select Diango as a category for the lost item.

Unfortunately, I got a rather standard reply. The item was not truly "lost" so there's nothing for them to recover.

I went ahead and made a suggestion thread. Thank you for the help.
