Given the concerns about other platforms being inadequate for some of the things forums offer as a platform, I was wondering how people would feel about making a new forum to move to. There isn't any way to preserve the use of RS accounts but it would still be something. Jagex stopped caring about its official forums a while ago so that's not really a loss either. We could still share and discuss content ideas among ourselves even without any expectation that Jagex is looking at it.

The main issue I see is longtime difficulty making clan recruitment work on other platforms, so that seems like a big appeal of making a new place for the forum community. As a community run platform, we could also set it up with all the QoL improvements we wished the forums had. What do you think? I'm sure we have enough tech savvy and passionate forumers to make it work.

It'd be nice if some unofficial forum existed to try and replace the RSOF. However, it'd probably eventually die. A lot of people like the forums because they're an official place to discuss the game. They're directly tied to the website which also helps to attract new users.

With an unofficial forum, no one will easily know there is a forum for the game. Jagex likely won't reference it anywhere so that leaves in-game and other social platforms for advertisement. It'll be difficult to reach new users. The forums can't solely rely on older users. It needs some activity from new users as well.

An unofficial forum just won't have the same lifespan as the RSOF. RSOF being tied to the website is why it stayed somewhat alive. It managed to attract enough people to stop it going completely lifeless.

There's really no true replacement for the RSOF. That is why Jagex' decision to close them sucks so much.

Yeah im in agreement with singularity. As fantastic as it would be. The issue would literally be its not Official. And that is was what one makes this place much safer. That seems to be the main concerns with people going to reddit and discord etc

I hope in near future we will find out thay jagex are going to replace it with somethinf different. Thats obviously my wishful thinking. But something they can have more control over. I assume RSOF as we know now is too outdated. And were unable to update change things as they wanted
Hell they had issues getting titles back on the forums
200m all RS3 on 7/3/19
1.2Billion overall Slayer xp / Ultimate slayer title

OSRS 2277/2277 Untrim slayer cape
Hail Satan, He loves for who you are.

AFAIK, there are still many Runescape Fansites with similar forums and clan recruitment threads as the RSOF. Not that I use or recommend any of them though, but literally they are no different than the RSOF except there is no guarantee there won't be phishing and other forms of harmful links there.

Anyway, you can go to these fansite forums for discussions and clan recruitments if you want to, but I don't suggest you to register with your actual Jagex Accounts information.

Reddit is the new forums. Not just for RuneScape - for forums all over the web. That's been the general trend for a while now.

I know some users have certain reservations regarding joining social media platforms for RuneScape discussion. However, the /r/runescape subreddit has been a successor to the forums for a decade at this point. That's where Jagex and the community have largely moved to.

I invite you to join us over at /r/runescape:

I hate it when people try to pass Reddit off as a forum. It really isn't. There are things about forums it simply fails to deliver on. It's all one big feed driven by popularity and you can't pick up older stuff unless you know what to look for. That just doesn't work if you want a forum's ability to split threads into categories and give people a better view of in depth conversations by order of recent activity rather regardless of popularity.

Not getting a reply and some upvotes on the first day isn't a death sentence because people can still easily find it and it. Thread bumping also allows bringing back older threads that went dormant but returned to relevance.

Yes I was thinking/hopeful about this.
Perhaps on the RS Wiki since it is already officially connected to the game. In addition to the 'Discussions' area that is on there.
The post above me, perfectly, succinctly, explains what I've had in mind to say but been struggling to write.
I do browse Reddit/Discord occasionally, but they give me a metaphorical headache. They are *too* active/busy for me, hard to follow conversations, too 'colourful' with pictures and memes etc.
