Some of the "forever games" I can think of are everyday causal games like crossword puzzles.
There are also other games based on well known ancient popular IP like Lord of the Rings. Rest assured, I believe the very first game based on LotR has died long ago, but new games keep coming based on the original fable. Popular stories running for decades can run forever.

What are "forever games" to you, and how will you make them?
Is that a question for Jagex or us? I don't plan on making any forever games, but as for what a forever game is to me depends on perspective. It's one that lasts forever (continuously new things to do), one that I feel like I can play forever/have played forever, or one that feels like it takes forever to accomplish anything. Again there, depending on perspective and playstyle, RuneScape can fit all of those.

This thread is for the discussion among RSOF users, of course, because this place is not for questions to Jagex. However, Jmods can be RSOF users too so their participation will be welcome too.
I think different entities have different definition on "forever". "A diamond is forever", for instance, but a diamond is not really forever for everybody other than De Beers.

While the meaning of "forever" can be very different from person to person, I believe most people agree that there must be FUTURE in a "forever game". To me, forever games is not just about the past and now, but most also have the vision of the future.
Corporate mottos are such delightful amusements. The execs at my company cough out a new one every 2 to 3 years, each more humorously preposterous than the last. We're currently doing, "Ready for the future!" LOL. The only way my corp execs would be ready for the future is if Doc Brown dropped a 2030 Wall Street Journal into their inboxes.
"forever games".... giggle! It's best not to ponder the meaning too deeply because, (trust me on this one) ...there isn't any meaning. Just nod, smile, and toss this year's free motto-printed t-shirt into the rag pile.
Never uses treasure hunter keys. Never buys runecoins or bonds. Never pays extra for 'Premier' status or passes. Never will.
