Unfortunately, RSC was littered with bugs, and nobody at Jagex now understands the code that RSC was built on.

This means that these bugs cannot be fixed without significant investment in both time and resource. If the bugs persist, then the game is simply not playable, therefore there is no reason to open the game again.

As much as I'd love to see a return, I doubt we'll get it.

However, I think it'll be cool if one day there was a quest in RS3 that returned us to the graphics of the time. Something like a flashback where we can wonder around and interact with things, but not take anything with us (saves on designing new icons for all the items we have now). This would be built on the RS3 engine, and could be similar to the current Winter Village where a little bit is opened at a time.

This could be a popular way of incorporating the nostalgia of the past, without having another separate game to experience it.

Doubtful if they want to do 2001 graphics, even if they can, in RS3. Note that all the character models and graphic engine has changed over the last 18 years, and that's why it is hard to even deliver the new Avatar Refresh project in RS3 with the modernized graphics engine. We aren't going back to 2001 graphics in RS3.

The other question is why don't they do it in OSRS with their low definition graphics instead? It will be definitely a lot easier to put 2001 graphics in 2007 LD graphics settings.

Of course it won't be exact. It's a completely different engine. However, it may be possible to do some basic graphics very similar to what we had in RSC with the engine available now. It may even be quicker to do than other new content as there will be very little artistry and rendering to go into it.

They brought back Tutorial Island in an unusual fashion. I don't see why they can't do something similar with RSC.

I am pretty sure all the greatest breakthrough graphics like transformation to a tiny piece of coal in RS3 can't be done in RSC or RS2 graphics models with fixed height and size. However, this should be no problem in OSRS as vanilla OSRS graphics is just 2 years ahead of the 2005 version.

Even they are both called Tutorial Island in RS3 and OSRS, it is not hard to see they are essentially totally different in term of graphics.

RSC is dead because developers in modern days can't practically find any time to financially and technically justify their existence.

Even recreating and maintaining a small piece of RSC graphics content, for example, is extremely hard (if even possible) already. Not only are all the RSC avatar and NPC models don't fit in 2003 RS3, we have already known that even a single OSRS NPC like Vorkath would be very hard to accommodate in 2023 RS3 from Mod Dragon. RSC characters would be absolutely crap in 2023 RS3.
