Thanks guys.
@Thankfulness -- no insider's knowledge about the hidden update here. Flipping still works, but you need to develop a longer list of good flipping items to cycle through every 4 hours since you can't reset your limits anymore.
"So for Santas, for example, I might leave in a buy offer 600k under their instant buy price, or 100K ish under the sell price. If I don't get any for 15-20 minutes, then increase the offer slightly and wait again. This way you'll "creep up" on the margin. Once they buy slowly, you can then resell higher."
So say the instant buy price was 80M. You'd (going by your example) put an offer in for 79,400,000. Then you would increase that by say 50,000 a time till it bought?
Where would you find the instant buy price? Clan chats that were mentioned above wouldn't supply the instant buy prices as I'm assuming they'd be attempting to make money of this item? What if you guessed the price and you guessed it too much then the santa instantly bought, would you not lose money?
Putting my confusions to one side, it's a very well written guide which explains the mysteries of the mysterious Grand Exchange. It is pretty difficult to get your head around (especially someone who thought the Grand Exchange worked by spawning in items).
Thank you for all the help so far and for putting all your own knowledge out there for the RuneScape community to see.
Okay so regarding Santas. Join R Quark and ask for the price. You'll either get told "---B" or "---S." B=instant buy, S=instant sell.
Buy your santa ~600K under the instant buy, or ~100K under the instant sell, and then resell for around the instant buy price.
The 600/100 rule for santas isn't set in stone either, sometimes if you watch the prices for a while you can find a 800k-1m range that santas are trading between. Also, if the hats are rising you might need to buy higher; if they're falling then you'll want to go further under depending on how old the reported price is.
^ Most likely that was an instance of low volume. Yours was the only sell offer in, and someone just put up 10m or something to get their armor set.
Glad you liked the thread though.
I enjoyed reading your guide
One question though
Didn't jagex make it so that you have to wait 4 hours now after buying and selling stuff when you hit a limit
For example, I buy 10 whips then I sell 10 whips
I am no longer able to buy any more whips even if i go +15% for a while after I sell the 10 whips
