What do you mean "rare"? Everyone's name is just as rare, as only one person is permitted to have that name. If my name was, say, "auwm34qp" (completely random) it would be just as rare as the name, say, "player".

Honestly, "rare" is the wrong word for it. Rare in this case is defined as "desirable" rather than the correct definition of "rare".

It actually depends on the demand for that name too. As auwmn34qp is a bunch of random numbers and letters, the demand for that name would be much less than any common or uncommon real-life name, or even the display name "player".
A further explanation of this is that a lot of people are named "Alex". As real-life first names are commonly seen in display names, a lot of people named Alex (not all, but a lot) would desire that as their display name without any numerals.
If a player with the display name "Alex" changed his username, many other players will watch to see when (or if) it becomes available. This is what creates rarity.
