I recently read a guide on another, off-site, forum which was centred around the experience gained while cutting Ivy. They estimated the total time taken to get three Morphic Tools as being 30 minutes, using a non-combat Stealing Creation clan (three Morphic Tools being the amount of tools required per hour of Woodcutting). They then went on to estimate the rate of woodcutting Ivy as 108K experience per hour, a rate I thought to be rather reasonable, although based on little testing. Now, in all actuality, that 108K experience was not gained during 1 hour of play time, but 1 hour and 30 minutes of playtime, excluding time taken to travel to the Ivy and time spent in between games at Stealing Creation. This reduces the actual amount of experience per hour to around 72K per hour (mentioned further on in the guide). Now, I know from my own experiences that an experience rate is easily achievable with a Dragon Hatchet. However, assuming you value your time at around 1 Million per hour, it will take you 1 hour and 30 minutes to earn enough to purchase the Dragon Hatchet; in which time you have lost out on 108K experience to a person using Stealing Creation hatchets.

So, this means that a person playing Stealing Creation will have to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes in total between games before the Dragon Hatchet option becomes viable. So, assuming a waiting period of 2 minutes per game the Dragon Hatchet will become viable after the SC user has played 45 games. 45 games will yield an average total of around 1013 points assuming maximum concentration. This gives the SC player enough points for just 20 hatchets, only enough for around 7 hours of Woodcutting, giving a total of 756,000 experience. Then factor in 450 minutes of playing time to obtain these points. 450/60 = 7.5 hours. In 14.5 hours of time, only 756,000 experience has been gained, giving an actual experience per hour of 52,137 xp.

Continue in next post.

In that same amount of time, assuming a rate of 72k Woodcutting esxperience per hour, a player using a Dragon Hatchet will have gained a total of 936,000 experience, giving an actual experience rate per hour of 64,551. Furthermore the experience rate will increase for a Dragon Hatchet as time goes on, as the time getting the cash for your hatchet does not increase, whereas time spent getting SC hatchets does increase over time.

Overall, 13,034,000 experience will require 182.527 hours of Woodcutting using a dragon hatchet, giving an average experience rate per hour of 71,408 xp when including the time taken to get the Dragon Hatchet.

Overall, 13,034,000 experience will require 249.995 hours of playtime using Stealing Creation hatchets, when including the time taken to get the hatchets.

In conclusion, by using SC hatchets you are adding 67.468 hours of time onto your total Woodcutting time; during which you could have gained 67.468 Million GP.

Of course, 90k xp per hour could be gained at the Sawmill after level 80, increasing experience rates by 18.6k. I have even accounted lack of concentration in this, reducing the rate from 100k/hour to 90k/hour. As you can only do the sawmill after level 80, it will require around 150 hours of playtime to get 99 Woodcutting using the sawmill. saving around 32 ours on using a Dragon Hatchet at Ivy.

Just a little something for you to read :p.

Thanks guys :)

Interesting calulations, Dewsly, but I think you're a bit innacurate in changing the data because of the cost of a dragon hatchet. Note that you can sell the hatchet back at any time; it costs you no money to use it while woodcutting unless the price drastically lowers while you train. The calculations of the off-site guide you mentioned seemed fairly accurate. Either way, we both agree it's pretty clear that's it's more efficicient to simply use a dragon hatchet (and sell it if needed when not woodcutting) then to waste your time at SC. SC only seems valuable for the hammers (or if you're extremely bored, like I used to be =p)

Yes, I was assuming that the Dragon Hatchet would be kept, a hatchet is often useful for other activities.
