-Slayer vs. “Other training”
Ahh. The age-old debate: “To slay or not to slay?” It seems like it may require a bit of thinking, with trade-offs both ways, but the reality is that this can be figured out as an extreme example on Principle 2.
Suppose you were do train at Bandits until you had all 99 melee skills, and your slayer is level 55. Then what? Remember, we must keep the ultimate goal in mind. You’ll effectively have to maximize your melee all over again when you finally get 99 slayer, causing you to waste tons of time. Yes; you would end up with a hefty amount of experience over 99 in melee skills, which would be beneficial, but the argument could be extended to 200m in each skill if you wish to extend the value of experience past 99. When all is said and done, non-slaying training methods are giving you experience that you will, in time, earn anyways from slaying.
The misconceptions occurs only due to people who do not play efficiently. This includes “Pures,” who simply wish to get combat skills up as fast as they can to PK, and perhaps people who are overly obsessed with PvM, where their slayer level is of little to no value. I respect the choices these people make, and they are free to play any way they want to, but it’s clear that to be efficient, slayer is the way to go in nearly all cases. The only possible exception would be at very low levels, when more simplistic methods of training may give you a head start.
The list goes on and on; I just wanted to name these three to give people a better understanding of what to think of when making decisions. Have any more misconceptions you’ve heard? Post them!
