Credit91111, just a few other things to check to make sure you are doing it correctly. Is number lock turned on? Are you using the number keys that are shared with the letters? If you were doing those then what is the model of your computer?

On the emergency space, the 0 could go. It works either way.
If you mess up with an alt code, continue holding alt, and press the "." key that is next to the 0, thus avoiding the need for release-and-delete.
