Think Pads have a slightly different setup for the way that you use alt codes. The codes are the same that are listed on the first page, but in order to use them there are a few added steps.

To access your Think Pad's alt codes you need to press SHIFT + ALT + NUM LOCK. This will activate your alt codes, but it will turn off of your normal typing keys. Once the codes are activated you can follow the laptop or desktop guide on the first page.

Once you have finished doing your alt codes then you must once again press SHIFT + ALT + NUM LOCK in order to change back to your regular keyboard keys. Now you will be able to type regular characters.

The alt codes aren't working, why is this?

1. Make sure you have Number (Num) Lock turned on.
2. turn num lock on, on Toshiba computers. All you need to do is press the FN key + F11. This should do the trick.

I only can use a few of the alt codes, as the other ones won't show up.

1. Follow the advanced alt code guide and change your keyboard settings to "English (United States)".
2. If you are using a MAC computer then there are some codes that your computer isn't programed to do, but you can look towards the bottom of this page to see the ones that do work.

• † HOW TO USE MAC ALT CODES † •

There are two ways to do alt codes on a Mac computer, the first way is with the accents on the vowels, and the second way is all the other codes. You will now want to locate the alt (option) key. This key should be located in the bottom left corner of your keyboard, or near there.

The letters:

The sample code that you will want to use will be ALT+E, A. To use this code you will want to press ALT and then the E key. Pick up your fingers and press shift and the A key. Now lift your fingers up and You should get the symbol like this Á.
To do the letters that aren't capitalized don't hold down shift.

Other Symbols:

These codes are simpler

. The sample code we will use is alt+7.
The first thing you want to do is hold down the alt key, then press the 7 key and pick up your fingers. You should get this symbol ¶.
The second one to try is Shift+Alt+D. First hold down shift, then hold down Alt. The final key to press is D, after you press the key lift your fingers off the other keys and this symbol should show up Ð.

• † HOW TO USE LINUX ALT CODES † •

Linux computers have a more complicated way of using alt codes, but it is a more universal. Linux computers use UNICODES. These can be used to make a wide variety of symbols and shapes, but it appears that these only work on the forums. Unfortunately I do not have a whole bunch of information on these codes, so any information that can be provided will be a great addition to the guide

The first step that we want to take is to figure out a symbol and the code that we can use to for a test. We will be trying to produce this symbol "±" The code for this symbol is 00B1.

Now you will want to press down and continue to hold Ctrl+Shift. Once you do that press the "U" key and then enter your code by pressing 0 then 0 then B then 1. Finally remove your fingers from the Ctrl and Shift keys. They "±" symbol should appear.

It appears that Linux computers are only able to do Unicodes on the FORUMS. If you have a Linux computer and have found any information that would add to this guide please post it. It will be greatly appreciated
