I am seriously asking for some help here. I am currently logged into my main account from the website. I have my current password and user name. I cannot play because I had enabled authenticator about two years ago, maybe even three years ago, I cannot remember exactly. Please understand I am a 67 year old grandmother who has played Runescape off and on since the early days of 2001. It was in fact my first MMO. My problem is I cannot remember or find the password for the authenticator. I have tried to disable the authenticator but when I log back in it still wants the authenticator code. This has resulted me going back to my account page and trying to disable it again. Again I get the email and click the link and log in . Again it wants authenticator code which I cannot give it. So now my account gets locked. I ask to have account unlocked and it sends me to recover account to change my password. I have changed my password at least ten times now and I am running out of ideas and am about to have a heart attack. Can any real person please please help me?

Unicorn2,

Are you 100% sure you've followed / did these steps mentioned in this article:
Disabling the Authenticator

If so, and it's not working for you, then you will have to submit a manual recovery to remove authenticator. Click the "I don't have access to that email address" link to begin the process.

If you need further assistance, please create a new thread in the Community Led Account Help forum.

Thank you for at least replying to my post. Now I know there are real people over there. The problem I found out was in the timing of the emails. There are no instructions or mentions of how long the emails are good for or when to actually use the email link. What I found was that I was trying to use the email too quickly. After yet another unsuccessful attempt to remove the authenticator I went back to the most recent email and clicked it again. This time I actually got a message that said the authenticator had been disabled whereas previously it always sent me back to the log in and of course the authenticator was still active. Please let people know that they should get a message that says the authenticator has been disabled. If they do not get the message they should return to the email link and try again. If I had not been so persistent in trying to fix my problem I would not have found this.

Sincerely yours

Always be careful what you're downloading, and if it doesn't come from a trusted source:
(Jagex, microsoft, google, etc), then maybe reconsider downloading it. Some hackers are probably very good at hiding their software, so that it's not caught by antivirus. If you download a bunch of random stuff from sites and torrents: music, games, and whatever media you like, you're exposing your computer to many potential risks, and even having your account details stolen. I know to some people this might seem like common sense, but there have been a lot of people lured into downloading something or phished by sites that look like the runescape site, but are actually trying to steal passwords. Hackers will do anything they can to coerce you, and even people normally familiar with keeping their account safe can benefit from being reminded, so I hope my post helped, and take care.
