Why's that in particular then? Just curious.

I do tend to say hi when I come in FC myself, but I'm aware that sometimes if people forget to leave the chat before logging out of game, they might find themselves in FC next time they log in without realising it, until someone speaks in there. Also, if someone's multi-tasking while they play, they might be logging in and out fairly frequently if they keep getting timed out, so a new 'hi' each time may be a little disruptive?

For newcomers too who are just dropping by, they may just like to get a flavour of the chat quietly first before joining in. Some may be a little shy after all! I've done that myself when visiting new chats uninvited have to say. Don't like to draw attention to myself until I feel that the chat might be a place I'd enjoy joining in with.

On the whole though, I agree, it is polite to say hi when you come in if possible, but I don't know if it needs to be made a rule?

When people enter the friends chat they need to say "hi", not just sit there lurking.

Can't say I would like such a rule. There are times where I don't like saying Hi. I have my anti-social moments and I certainly aren't up to starting a conversation every time I get in-game. I just want to relax and play the game, then of course join in with the chat if I wish to.
