So I went to a cafe the other day for breakfast, and I of course asked for some pancakes, whilst happily minding my own business and whistling the tune to I Love It by Icona Pop.
However, as time went on I slowly started getting more suspicious. There were a couple of people sitting near me that ordered pancakes before me, and so therefore got them before me. The problem was they weren't making the noises that you expect someone who's eating pancakes to eat. You expect someone to at first make a 'mmmm' sound, followed by a light sigh as they swallow their first bite, and then complete silence for the rest of the time as you marvel in the exquisite taste. This simply didn't happen.
When the pancakes came I was even more suspicious than before. Rather than a medium or dark amber colour of syrup, I instead was looking upon a yellowy gold concoction, which looked extremely dense and sticky rather than thick yet fluent. I went into the pancake cautiously.
When I took my first bite my worst fears were understood, and I realised why the couple near me were far from happy. The syrup that was in my mouth was the horrific golden syrup, not luscious maple syrup! I spit it out, of course, feeling disgusted and slightly sick. I immediately got up, stormed out of the cafe, returned home, and started crying. What had the world come to?
But, don't worry everyone, that cafe has understandably been closed down.
