You tried joining the FC not CC, to join the CC as a guest go to:

- Clan Tab
- Bottom right green dot
- Once clicked the green dot click the arrow bottom left of the tab
- Once clicked that type in 'Intercept'

This will let you join the Clan as a guest till invited. Once guesting use /// before typing to talk in the Clan Chat.
