No the discord isn't mandatory. I would recommend at least giving it a shot. It's a really useful tool for any online gaming. It contains many servers that are really helpful for finding people for things not just as a clan based tool.

Yes Xargy would get recognition for you joining in the form of clan points. Xargy is still around and in fact you could contact them on discord xd
