A short guide to "Not Discovered" star hunting

Not Discovered stars are those stars which are still on the Shooting Star Notice Board without the name for a player having found them well after the wave has landed. (The notice board is near the Observatory.)

The Shooting Star Notice Board lists the last few stars for each world, when they landed and who it was that tagged them. (Note - the time listed is *not* the time the star was tagged, only the time it landed.) One interesting thing about world hopping at the Notice Board is seeing the names of players who are tagging stars - sometimes the same player tags a few stars in that world and some names can be seen in a few worlds. If you are a regular in star find you will likely see names you know! One important point - you do *not* need a telescope for hunting stars this way, and it is faster world hopping than scoping is since you just log in and check the scope with a single click, then hop worlds (or announce that a Star Hunt is on in chat).

Why hunt for Not Discovered Stars?

Well, they are untagged so there is a lot of easy exp up for grabs, even if the next wave is due not long after. They could be any size star, so might well have a lot of exp to offer mining-wise as well, and this is a way to locate stars when there was no list for hunting "Unfound" stars. It is also fun to hunt for a star when you do not even know the region it landed in - many regulars in Star Find are getting good at this sort of hunt now, and can quickly team up to check the star landing locations.

How do Not Discovered Stars differ from "Unfound" stars?

"Unfound" stars are ones where the chat knows the regon that the star is in, but has not has a report so we do not know if that star is tagged, is being mined or if it is perhaps is long gone. Unfound stars might be untagged, but often are not.

Not Discovered Stars are, at the moment you checked the Notice Board, still untagged, unmined and waiting somewhere.

What is needed to hunt "Not Discovered" stars?

A ring of dueling to teleport to Castlewars, for the short walk north to the Professor's House behind the observatory where the Notice Board is.

A knowledge of star locations and the ways to teleport around to them quickly, the runes and other teleports (elf crystal, slayer gem + dramen staff, ectophial, glory (4), wealth (4), spirit tree etc.).

Where to start looking?

I would suggest that about 40% of these stars are in the wilderness but there are a lot of other good places to check as well, perhaps before doing a wildy hunt.

A Not Discovered star can be in almost any star location, but some of the 44 locations in the 8 star regions are busy and unlikely to have a star untagged for long (Al Kharid Bank for example) while others are excellent places to check (Uzer, Crandor, Mos) because fewer players will have passed by.

One rule of thumb is to check the places that you can teleport to fastest, no matter the region, since you know the star is untagged and will only remain so while undiscovered - the urgency of finding it quickly is part of the fun.

After your first round of teleports, consider a quick run to the Notice Board again to check the status (or if others in Star Find are helping, a spotter can watch the Notice Board and update the chat).

Unlikely places are, for example, canafis, akb, duel, aub, sev, champs, yanille, gnomes, west fally, and rim. These are not worth checking first.

Some places to check quickly at first - elves, mos, lunar, misc, keld, jaitz / neitz, hs, crandor, brim, uzer, vultures / nardah - remember to spot Neitz from the edge of Jaitz and to look down from the top of Crandor to the southwest beach (you can see the star after you climb the rope), so only run down Crandor if the star is there.

Overall, C-K, Fremmy, Desert and Wiildy have the best outcomes, but the Not Discovered star could be anywhere.

Remember - "All Your Star Are Belong To Us" if we can find them!
