FC Moderators

The sole role of an FC moderator (silver and gold star symbols in FC) is to help maintain an environment in the chat that is both pleasant and constructive for all. To enable them to do that they have powers to kick disruptive players at their discretion. In most situations a warning will be given first, usually by pm if that is possible. If the behaviour is repeated, the offender will then be kicked. In extreme situations though, FC moderators may kick without a warning.

The star symbol in the FC is not a reward in any sense. It merely indicates that a tool has been given to a player who has displayed the necessary character traits, to enable them to help keep the chat a pleasant place to be.

Criteria for Invitation to FC Mod Team

Bearing in mind that the sole responsibility of a FC moderator is to maintain a pleasant chat environment, players are not invited because of their knowledge, skill levels, events they have organised, time of playing Ironman, or length of time in the FC. The only qualities taken into consideration are their maturity and ability to relate to others with respect, friendliness and sensitivity. The ability to diffuse a potentially volatile situation tactfully rather than jump in on one side and fuel the fire, is particularly valued.

FC moderators are not expected to have all the answers, or to always be on call for giving advice. Thankfully, we have many much valued knowledgeable and experienced players in FC who are happy to share their knowledge with others.

In addition to the personal characteristics required, a prospective FC mod must have been in chat for at least long enough for several current FC mods to be confident that they have the necessary qualities to fulfil the role well. They must also have played on an F2P Ironman account (either currently or previously) for long enough to have a good idea of what that entails.

A 'new' FC Mod who you have not seen in FC before, may sometimes be seen. In that case, it is probably the alt of an existing FC mod. You can check the list here for FC mod's alts that also have silver stars in the chat.

Process for recruiting new FC Mods

1. A potentially suitable candidate is recommended to the team by one of the current FC Moderators.

2. A minimum two week period is given, to give other FC Mods who may be less familiar with the candidate, a chance to watch them and develop an opinion. This period may be greater if that process is taking longer, for example if the person recommended is on a different time zone or is currently not so active.

3. Current FC mods feedback their views on the proposed FC mod to the team.

4. The team arrive at a consensus on whether to invite them or not.

5. If it is decided that the candidate is suitable, the one of the Curators will invite them to help out on the team.

FC Mod Removals

We anticipate that the need for enforced removal of FC mod permissions will be extremely rare, as we choose players to invite very carefully and cautiously. However, it would be foolish to assume that the need for that to happen will never arise.

There are certain expectations of those who moderate the chat, which if they persistently ignore, will necessitate the removal of their star in FC. That doesn’t necessarily mean they have done something terrible, just that they are unwilling to take on the limitations that the role involves regarding the way they interact with others. To some extent, there are higher expectations of FC mods than there are of other FC users, and that does not necessarily suit everyone.

To protect the person’s privacy, reasons for a compulsory removal of their FC mod responsibilities will not be posted publicly, unless they choose to raise it publicly themselves. They are of course free to tell anyone else they wish to themselves and would still be very welcome in the chat of course.

Also, to state the obvious, any FC moderator is free to step down from their volunteering at any time they wish to, either for a temporary period or permanently.

FC Moderation Guidelines

For the sake of transparency, a summary of the guidelines our FC Mod team have agreed to abide by, is given here and in the post below. The full version of our Moderation Guidelines can be referred to on our offsite forums:

“Moderating Guidelines

The overall guiding principles are to ensure that those in the chat keep to RuneScape rules, respect the F2P Ironman focus of our chat, and ensure that the FC environment is a welcoming and pleasant environment for all its users, regardless of their culture, religious/political beliefs, race, gender, sexuality, age, style of play, or any other distinguishing characteristic.

Those principles should be the factors you consider when deciding whether or not to take any actions as moderators in the chat. Within that remit, I trust you teammates to use your judgement and discretion in the many varying situations that you may encounter.

Kicking should always be a last resort, and used only after careful consideration! [/i]”

FC Moderation Guidelines: Procedure

If players are overstepping the mark in any respect, a general request in fc to change or drop the subject should be the first approach to try to keep it less personal. If it continues, give a direct warning in pm to stop, or if pm is not possible, in FC. Again if it continues after that, a kick would be appropriate. Before pming a player to warn them, permission to pm should be requested in FC, whether or not they have their private chat on, in order for the rest of the FC to be aware that the issue is not being ignored.

When immediately kicking a player for a non-obvious reason, the Friends Chat should be informed in general terms of the reason (eg alt of banned player etc).

In the case of breaking RuneScape rules, you may feel an instant kick is necessary to protect those in the FC. This will be dependent on the nature of the rule breaking, and whether you believe the offender to be aware that they are breaking game rules. For example, any attempts to lure or scam should not be tolerated. In some other situations a warning will be sufficient or you may even feel that no action at all is necessary.

If possible it would be helpful to allow a player that you have kicked to contact you in pm to discuss it. That may help to prevent them returning on an alt to question it in FC, or help them to understand exactly what they did that was unacceptable.

Community Activists

The central thing about this role, as the name implies, is activity! These players are the life and soul of the FC: friendly, amiable, chatty, helpful, enthusiastic, full of ideas and motivation regarding the FC and known by all the FC regulars. They are committed to developing our FC community spirit and to making the FC a fun and exciting place to hang out.
Facilitating the CA team in their endeavours is the responsibility of the CA team Coordinator, ‘facilitation’ being the pertinent word. The CA team Co-ordinator is no more or less important than any other CA team member but is there to help things run smoothly.

Criteria for Invitation to the CA team

• Enthusiastic involvement in the chat

• Active in game

• Friendly/welcoming

• Helpful/willing to give in game advice and tips

• A demonstrated interest in attending/organising ‘events’ in a broad sense (forum, in-game, Discord etc)

• Willing to register on our forums

• Have had, or do have, considerable experience playing f2p iron themselves

• Adhere to our guidelines for behaviour in chat

• Have been active in the FC for at least 8 weeks

(See below for CA team recruitment and removals)

Process of Recruiting to the CA team

1. Prospective recruits will be identified and proposed by any current member of the CA team.

2. The CA team will consider the player’s suitability for a further two weeks minimum.

3. The CA team Coordinator will summarise the team’s feedback and make a decision based on it.

4. If the candidate is approved, the CA team Coordinator will invite them to join the team.

CA Team Removals

Since activity is a crucial aspect in this team, the team will be far more fluid than the FC Moderation team in terms of people coming, going and returning. CA team members are expected to withdraw formally from the team if they have a temporary period of reduced activity, and will be readily reinstated once they return to greater activity again. You are therefore likely to see the three stripes symbol disappear and reappear from players fairly frequently – that won’t be because they have done something dreadful!
In the case of prolonged inactivity without notice, the CA team Co-ordinator will make a recommendation to the Curators of a player to be withdrawn from the team.

Other Ironman Chats

If you know of any active Friends Chats covering RS3 P2P Iron accounts, or Oldschool Iron accounts, please do feel free to post them here, and I will give them coverage on the thread.

I have not found any general Friends Chats for P2P Iron accounts that are active, but there is now a clan chat set up that is affiliated to f2pironmanfc. It is intended for those P2P iron accounts who wish to remain active in f2pironmanfc to guest in at the same time and chat about their P2P content there! Thanks to Sarthari and HC autumn, two P2P regulars of f2pironmanfc for running that. That clan chat is not operating as a clan as such, in function it is more of a simultaneous chat facility, since we can only be in one friends chat at the same time.
The affiliated clan chat is called: '
p2pironmanfc
'. (Yes, despite the name it is a cc not a fc .)

Ironman

A Friends Chat mainly occupied by Old School Iron players. Though very active, it appears not to be maintained by the account owner, so no ranks etc.
