Sorry. There was a random off-topic that dardad and motherland caused; it's okay that you're in inactive, the admins of the fc have mostly everything under control :)
Would he nice to catch up with your sometime!

You know darn well I didn't cause anything and I'd appreciate it if you would get off my ass :)

To clarify, what comes across as "weird" is that sometimes there are 3 new trades outside of range, but when making the new range we still look at the 10 most recent trades. Other times, we use a much smaller number of trades (e.g. 4 trades for the recent blue update). This is something that should be standardized. Maybe we should always use 10 most recent trades, maybe we should always use only "new" trades, maybe we should do something more sophisticated like i suggested above. But right now it seems like there's no rhyme or reason to how many trades we use to make new ranges, it's just the choice of whatever player starts the process. That's not a great system, imo.

The policy as I recall it from the meeting when we changed it was that we update a range whenever there are 9+ trades or there are 3+ trades outside of the current range. In the latter case, if there are fewer than 9 trades then we also re-use the five previous trades—those used for the old range(s). Exceptions have been made when there are 8 trades, and (say) the range is outdated or it is convenient to do all the ranges in one sweep. It is also important to not delay an update because that could be a form of manipulation.

^This was what we decided a few months ago, but it probably needs to be readdressed. In particular, to what extent can we use the additional information you mentioned.

Well i mean most of the time when we update early or outside of the guidelines we have a good reason for it. Not sure if every situation needs to be accounted for, no admins buy or sell hats so it should be to their best judgement if they think a range needs to be update with insufficient trades.

One quick question to consider:

When is good, good enough?

And a follow up:

How much trouble will you allow a single problem to cause before it should finally be abandoned?

I pose those questions exactly as I would at a board meeting or business analytics meeting. Just something to think about.....

Okay, I'll try this again....

Ranges cause too many problems. Either just let them be (no further discussions on how to "improve" them) OR (my preferred solution) just get rid of them entirely to eliminate the headache.

Better? Haha

Sure, I knew you were either talking about ranges or another specific thing so I just wanted you to clarify. That ststatement was broad enough to fit any ongoing problem or situation.
