Story Time.
Back in June, I believe, I went and bought the three month membership deal for ***** and giggles. Really only played for a solid week before I got bored, but I hardly spent anything so I wasn't too upset about it. Was mostly interested in seeing if in that time this game could capture my interest again, which needless to say it didn't. Deleted card information in august three days prior to the renewal date, made sure that was all fine and dandy.
Logged in about a week ago with a friend of mine who also has not played in several years. I noticed that on the lobby screen the subscription icon was flashing stating I still had two days left of membership. It is worth noting that I didn't bother checking to see when my account was last logged in. Went and double checked my billing information to see that I did remember to remove my card from file, but apparently I still had active membership. Nothing had been billed to my card and I had no messages from Jagex stating that I had made a purchase.
So then I actually logged in and took a look at my bank. More or less what had happened was my account was compromised, a bond was used to give my account membership so that it couldn't be traced, and some unknown individual made off with my eight years worth of wealth and items. If it could be traded, it was gone.
So RIP my account.
Moral: Use a bank pin and don't keep your valuable equipment on your person.
