Invention has caused quite a stir in the game. In my opinion most of these changes will have positive lasting effects. Most of your concerns can be boiled down to citadel or clan concerns that existed pre-invention. Recruitment gets tougher everyday as incoming new players seems to be becoming smaller (though I don't have stats to support that claim) while many current players have a clan and those who don't aren't interested.
Finally, as I've discussed elsewhere, 99s are still difficult to get for the average player, unlike you stated. They require a significant investment of time, less so if you shell out cash for bonds and keys, but I don't think it's that 99s are
easy
to achieve, but that the community hasn't changed much as far as population. So most of the people we see have been here quite a while, and since maxing is actually a semi-realistic goal for the casual player, a lot of people chase it. This leads to the no-exp waste mentality that, in my opinion, has drastically altered the community of RS over the past 10 or so years. I don't see that Invention, in and of itself, is the problem, but might just be emphasizing pre-existing problems.
My clan had the highest number of citadel visitors and resources gained on the week that invention came out in about 2 years, so I don't see how invention did anything or if it was just coincidental
Although we're not a skilling or PvM, many members did go to grind invention on release as well.
