Greetings! o/

Recently in the summer I've became quite inactive for several reasons, one of them being not interested in the game so much anymore and the second being I've found another game I'd rather play with.
However I did log back in several times a week to see how our co-leaders are doing in my abscene (well not entirely since I was always available on TeamSpeak).

One thing I learned in the other game is to have goals as a clan, something that you can work for, work together to achieve it. After some thinking I realised there's no such thing in the game.

Sure, you can work in the citadel 2 hours a week to get something totally useless, especially if you're already maxed or close to maxed and you don't need anything from it and even low levels barely use.

The clan cup was a nice thing to do as you had to shake up your clan members a bit and the clan had one goal: to have the best score, relative to the clan's level.

And yes, PvM clans can have some goals. Teaching low levels and set them ready within x weeks to a certain boss and upgrade their gear and providing them opportunity to learn.

And fun events? They are no goals. They are occasional meetings with clan members to do something that may not contribute to the CLAN ITSELF.

There are so many solo-skilling/PvM oriented content in the game, I can not see how certain casual or community clans can keep themselves up without having something MEANINGFUL to work for.
People can just continue skilling, levelling their characters and have a good time within the clan chat while doing so but without goals, these "clans" are no more than friend chats . As there's just no difference between joining a clan and a friends chat if you're only there for chatting and some occasional events.

What kind of clan goals do you have? The question is rather aimed at Community clan leaders than PvM clans. But - of course - you can share your thoughts as well.

Thank you, and have a nice day!

Shattered Moon is a community clan, and we are almost at the end of our 4th year of being. We have over 200 members, most of which are active

We don't have goals as such, other than to make Runescape a fun place for our clan mates to play. We have no requirements, no events, nothing. What has held us together all this time, is friendship. So yes, if you want to call us no more than a friend chat, then have at it. After all there is nothing wrong with those.

We have worked hard on making the clan what it is today, and we didn't need a goal to do it. For a while the citadel was our goal, but now the citadel is Tier 7 and completely maxed out on cosmetics, capping is voluntary and yet we still get 35+ full cappers a week,

Our clan is about bringing the game to the people, showing new or returning players the way, and helping them to find the joy we have in the game, There is no pressure, no targets and no activity requirements. We don't need to prove ourselves to anyone , we just enjoy.

From my experience I've always had some kind of goal.

One of the biggest goals I've always set is to try and give an incentive for regular members to host regular clan events. So that the clan is active and the leaders aren't always dragging everyone else into it.
Common goals have been certain clan size. 100 members, 200 members etc. Activity is closely related to this. Once reaching 100 members, recruitment will mostly pause to try and bring activity up to 80%.
Other goals I've had with clans is, certain number of events per week, Have a certain number of players on at all times of day (get at least 5 members in the clan 24 hours a day).
And rarely I've attempted a goal of having everyone in the clan aiming for a 99. Trying to create competition between a couple of players so they're more likely to be active on Runescape.
Ho Ho Ho!

My clan was founded to provide combat training to angry community members so that we can force Jagex to update clans for the reasons that you took the time to write out.
:|

Our end goal is to lead a successful coup against Jagex and the Chinese shareholders.

Currently, I am organizing plans and votes for rebuilding or throwing in the towel to be honest with you, I just couldn't resist writing out the above statements.....None of which of course are true....yeah....none of them....

To some extent that's true, but... so what?

What binds a group together, whether in an FC or a Clan Chat, is the network of relationships between members - not what they are expected to do.

What you CALL the group - be it clan, guild, friends chat, club, gang, community, whatever - is actually secondary and irrelevant.

I say this from experience, because the clan I founded, the
Caped Carousers
, existed before the Clan Chat system, let alone citadels, were introduced, and for several years we resisted calling ourselves a clan at all. Today we're okay with accepting the label, but it's just that - a label - not something that defines what we do or how we do it.

Our goal is to continue to provide a space where mature, reasonably intelligent people can be themselves, free of the judgement of others, able to chat with their peers without feeling peer pressure.

We pride ourselves on providing a supportive atmosphere both in terms of game content or personal game goals, and real life issues. Those personal relationships I mentioned above are the key factor in this.

We also organise optional real-life meets at RuneFest and elsewhere, and are active across external platforms like Steam and Teamspeak for those times when we're not on RuneScape (*gasp*).

This makes us a very strong group with a very low rate of member 'churn' - people who join us and like what they see tend to stick around for a very long time.
