Not sure this belongs in the flag a concern thread, so i'm posting it here...

So... As you all know, trolls go far sometimes to get that attention they desperatly need.

People impersonating admin+ was the latest issue we had, people joining the chat with very similar Admin+ names, acting like complete ***** to discredit that certain admin.

Extremely annoying.

Now we encounter a new problem. People taking the clans name and just use that as their character name.

Nothing wrong with that, if the intentions were ok, like to have a clan fc, or have the character to get the avatar out and whatnot.

But what if an outsider takes that name purely to troll, and acts like a ***** with that name, discrediting the clan.

Can it be considered as inapropriate that someone changes their name to a clanname, with the sole purpose to troll?
And is there something that we can do about it? like post in the flag a concern thread? Or would this just be insta classed to the bin?

Yea the thing is its not exactly against the rules but i would like to think that some common sense approach to investigating incidents like this and realising the person is doing it to cause harm then sending out a punishment.

To be honest i think Jagex are getting a little bit too soft on players who are disruptive in game, i see people say some hideous and toxic things continously and for many years now and are poison to the community not getting stopped or punished and quite frankly its getting worse.

Part of a bigger problem, Jagex need to step it up when it comes to this. the muting system and the use of quickchat are quite frankly not good enough.

I agree with this, general toxic behaviour should not be accepted on the scale it is right now. I'm not sure whether Jagex has the resources to do any more with the offense system than they are currently though, especially when I take into consideration appeals to offenses that are several years old but to this day still aren't answered.

As for the OP, we have the exact same issue with rival clans making alts that have similar names as our leaders just to flame on them and cause distress. What can we do about it? Not much, other than ignore them and hope they get bored of it and go away.

The system aside they are still too soft.

If i understand its a warning first, then multiple 24 hour mutes depending on the offence. lets just say the punishments are not sufficient enough for them to stop so they just keep on doing it.

Allowing people to use quickchat as part of a mute isnt good either as the spam just continues i know its easy to just ignore them but that doesnt stop people from doing it, its not really enough for us to just deal with it there needs to be punishment suitable that it starts to decline.

If the punishments were not just a joke then less people would do it and there would be less problems for Jagex and the system to have to sort through.

When you see the same people spouting the same stuff (and i mean really horrific) month after month you have to question the system.

I cannot agree with this thread more, as a clan we are having huge problems with an individual who constantly trolling both our fc and cc making numerous accounts to keep all our staff busy. We have reported in game and also on the voice of concern. There other issues with this individual and yet we can see nothing being done.

We have stopped guests talking in the cc trying to combat this, how long do we have to do this? Every account has been added to the clan ignore.

I do not think enough is done to combat the few who spoil it for the vast majority.

I am at a loss of what some individuals have to do to be ip banned or whatever.

I would love to actually see what happens when a player is reported. What training do the staff actually receive? I am personally interested in seeing what they are told to watch out for?

Could you not share with us on these forums? maybe then we would have more sympathy for the staff reading the reports?

I look forward to the other replies on this thread

It is clearly harassment and it should be dealt with accordingly. There really is no point in being lenient with a throwaway account. What is even more frustrating is that more often than not, it seems that the offence on a throwaway rarely gets linked to the main. Perhaps Jagex doesn't have the resources to properly investigate the offences and that is why action is taken only arbitrarily.

This is an old problem :( We have had a troll with multiple f2p accounts with names near identical to both the clan name and the then clan leader's name. Reporting did zero good , the clan ban list was too prescious to clog up with so many names, but vigilant admin kicking the guest the minute they appeared (it was a healthly competition as to who could get the kick) and us saying absolutely nothing about it worked a treat. A few days of silient kicking and they got bored and moved on. We have been that troll free for over 2 years now.

I find in Runescape the less you react to annoyance the less you get in the long run.

A toggle for whitelisted guests and P2P only would aid a lot with these problems. It's something that's been requested a lot before, but clan/community tools are not a priority. I have even considered developing an auto moderator with these features, which would be totally doable via the companion app without breaking any game rules (as far as I can tell), but unfortunately it seems you cannot kick via the companion app so that looks like a no-go as well.
