With all due respect, which is what someone says when they are about to afford someone no respect, I think it's now at a time when any firm decisions made by Mod Matthe could be revisited by the current person who oversees clans.

I don't think Mod Matthe decided this on his own. He only answered about the RS rule Unofficial Player Run Games Of Chance.

I also find it sad that clan lottery's are not allowed :( Perhaps in the futur it will be allowed again or something simular.

This is a game rule, not a clan rule, so I don't think it matters.

Anything that falls under "player-run games of chance" are against the rules. However, clan competitions that aren't luck-based and don't require a buy-in to compete are ok.

"''You must not advertise, organise, promote or take part in any unofficial player run games of chance where in game money or items are staked on the outcome of a random in game activity. This includes, but is not limited to, all types of chance games where players trade an amount of in game money or items with the expectation that they will receive in game money or items in return based on the outcome of a game of chance or similar activity.''

To me this is really clear. The key phrase is "but is not limited to" as that makes clear that various attempts to dance about it and find loopholes are considered to be covered by the rules.

I, personally, would consider a "clan activity" fund that you pay into and then have random payouts from to clearly be a subscription lottery and I do not see a way of allowing it under the rule outlined.

Simples :) " - Mod Matthe (11-Nov-2013 11:52:59)

"a competition in game should be fine. Hide and seek with prizes should be fine. Avoid an entry fee and it makes it look less like something someone would have to check against the games of chance rules." - Mod Matthe (11-Nov-2013 13:36:15)

I think the big highlight from that thread is something MattHe said on page 7:

Basically.....you can't do clan lotteries or raffles if they involve people paying into them one way or another. However, hosting weekly giveaways that you yourself are funding would be okay, I think .

oh wow this is good to know, my clan used to break this rule then apparently glad we did away with it.

I'm currently giving away a bond to some random capper if they cap, and I'm 100% funding it myself, so that should be okay, if not I'll just have to sell the bond and use the funds for myself. :( (I bought this bond from jagex months ago)

I'm guessing this means if I was to host a clan contest, I'd have to pay out of pocket. (or the host would)

This was answered in the CLF by Mod Matthe in 2013: Clan Lottery - Allowed?

Short answer: This is not allowed.

Mod Matthe has several replies to the thread I linked with more detailed responses.

just wanna say the QFC is nolonger valid, also this section is dead anyways, but this thread should probally be near the top.

my clan used to do cap raffles but we relyed on donos, we also used to run compations but you had to pay to enter. 95% of the time I never paid to enter coz I didn't see the point if I'm not even gonna try and win.

Sadly the thread no longer exists as it has dropped of the end of page 50... :( but the response were saved on the JMOD feedback thread.

Are in-game clan lotteries now against the rules?

Hi guys

Just wanted to say regarding the discussion of the Clan Lottery, it is best to keep the conversation out of in-game chat and off the forum.

Cheers

This would not be a permissible activity, because of two criteria. While you are utilizing a random name generator the in-game activity is membership of the clan and there is clearly a stake being made, even if it is labelled as a "donation".

So, a no I am afraid.

No. The cash put into the pool would still be a stake, whether they have am item as "deposit" against it or not. It is still a game of chance with a stake, so is not permissible.

"Unofficial Player Run Games Of Chance
You must not advertise, organise, promote or take part in any unofficial player run games of chance where in game money or items are staked on the outcome of a random in game activity."

All of those who took part are eligible to be punished for involvement, though I would expect those organising it to face a stronger sanction.
