Downgrading Citadel

We have very few active members currently and have been unable to get the upkeep for our citadel this week. Several clan mates are taking exams this month, so we may be able to get back on track in a couple of weeks upon their return.

Since we're struggling right now, we're considering our options. If we decide to keep it, what do we need to do to go to a lower tier?

The instructions are confusing. Can anyone explain the process of figuring out what tier we can keep up and how to get it changed to that level? We probably have five members who will cap, but our three avatars are now being held hostage so we can't benefit from their resource gathering right now. =/

After thousands of hours put in to reaching Tier 7 and maintaining it for many months, it's really disappointing to think of it all going to ruin.

By the sounds of it you can Downgrade any building down as many Tiers as you wish: so Downgrading to a Tier where you can manage the Upkeep would maybe be in your best interest.

If you needed to drastically lower your Upkeep, you could Downgrade the actual Citadel Stronghold which would bring down the other buildings to the same Tier and you would lose any Skill Plots that require the higher Citadel Tier.
But this would save you a headache with everything the same Tier so you know the Upkeep for that Tier and not need to mix and match with different Tier Upkeeps.

If you didn't want to Downgrade, you could let it Dilapidate, which would mean some things wouldn't work (assuming when you say Avatars are being held hostage, you mean it's become Dilapidated?) and the Skill Plots work like they are the lower Tier (T7 Tree acts as a T6 Tree, etc.) .
It's the more unfun/ uncontrollable Downgrade if you like, but may buy more time to get more members into Cap to stabilise it.

Some numbers

As long as members were careful about what they Capped on, the minimum members Capping would be:

Everything Tier 7: 10-11 members Capping
Everything Tier 6: 13-14 members Capping
Everything Tier 5: 9-10 members Capping
Everything Tier 4: 8-9 members Capping
Everything Tier 3: 6-7 members Capping
Everything Tier 2: 4-5 members Capping.

That's taking into consideration you have all maxed Skill Plots that you can have for the Citadel Tier (Tier 5 has all buildings at Tier 5 except for Barbecue which you can only get at Tier 6).

Throw in an Avatar or 2 Capping, you could hit the middle Tiers.


But personally I think you should bite the bullet and recruit a few more members in who could potentially Cap for you until your other members become more active and save all your progress going to waste. Proud Owner of the

If its not enough youll have to try and do some recruiting though.

Dilapidating is a saftey net though, if you don't meet the upkeep then it you're citadel goes into probation and the plots give lower xp and such and if you are unable to meet upkeep the following week after it has gone into dilapidation then you're citadel will be taken down to the below tier....and you lose the avatar...

As you said your avatars are being held hostage....I imagine this is already the case.... and like the clan leaders who posted before me, I'd suggest recruiting a few new people to help maintain the citadel untill your members come back.

So I advice a few things if you are desperate I suppose

1) Recruit new members

2) Buy citadel boosters and ask the members who are busy if they can cap if you use the booster on them as they can cap in 30-40 minutes

3) Recruit lower leveled players, in my experience they are more likely to cap in the citadel as they don't have 99 in the skill or the money to train that skill (firemaking, cooking, summoning, crafting)

4) Ask the members who are busy with school if possible to just do the 270 resources on the summoning plot this is resources that can go towards the upkeep. 270 is better than nothing.

Are you getting enough upkeep for the stronghold upkeep? When our clan was having difficulties meeting upkeep I set the guide totals and locks to the stronghold only and once that was done, focused on the storehouse and other plots.

The stronghold is basically the citadel and if you meet the upkeep for that then you will keep the tier and the avatars. the individual plots can downgrade without any damage to the whole of the citadel, only the plot itself will dilapidate. :)

Thanks for the replies.

I think Sookie Lala's idea may work the best for us. Our build tick is on Tuesday. Maybe it's not too late this week to adjust our upkeep targets to cover stronghold upkeep.

Hopefully this will help us get past the final exam lull.

Edit: I thought of another question.

Since we didn't get our upkeep the last build and the state of the citadel is dilapidated currently, what happens if we only get the upkeep for the stronghold? Does the bbq drop down to Tier 6, but we get the three avatars back?

so there is a way to save your citadel...by losing it.

you could lock everyone out of the citadel. as long as no one enters the citadel the new build tick will not start. if the new build tick doesn't start then you can't go down tiers.

unfortunately this means you also can't use your citadel.

Don't believe this works, I saw a thread a while ago about this, when they reopened it the citadel wasn't the tier they closed it at.

Can confirm, if the citadel is locked, it will lose its tiers/progress. Pleasure in the job, puts perfection in the work.
