Sigh....

I can't believe I am having to post this.

I am curious,
If a discord were made for the clan community as a whole, would you join?
It wouldn't be this exclusive club, which was originally created years ago as a resource to avail clan communities a means of communicating directly with Jagex, which has long since been outdated by the advent of various social media systems, like twitter.

My idea is to have someone create a discord that allows CLF members to apply for special userrights.

These can then allow access to other leaders of their community who might not have CLF access, but who are otherwise dedicated members of the universal clan community with focused interests in networking, co-operative event hosting, and who are curious about potential clan updates and the clan community as a whole.

I am aware that there is a Clan Leader Discord. Their recent decision to restrict the discord server to CLF access results in communities with more than 2 leaders no longer being able to have additional leaders contribute. For clans that operate a pseudo-dictatorship, this is not a problem, but it is for mine.

I respect the creator and manager of a discord server's right to decide how it is operated, but communication relevant to the CLF should be made in this forum alone. The discord had previously functioned to avail individuals of the broader clan community with a networking tool, and the ability to further extend that network of clan leadership outside the direct confines of the CLF . This is easily observed by looking at my clan having 4 members on the CLF discord, but not including me, Clan Quest's CLF rep.

My Clan had 30+ people attend Runefest18, 11 of which hold our clan's highest rank.

Another solution might be for the existing Discord to add additional usergroups for individuals who would like to stay informed and contribute to the greater clan community, but who don't have direct access to the CLF because of limitations in numbers.

Thoughts?

How is it a joke to ask if clan leaders would be interested in a discord that is designed for a broader clan community than the CLF leaders themselves?

I even said I'd be interested in having the existing discord add additional roles to grant individuals not in the CLF access to a medium to exchange ideas and network.

Doesn't the current Clan Leader Discord allow anyone, even if not in CLF, onto it? If I remember correctly, I was on the Discord server long before I gained access to CLF...

The administrators of that discord have decided to make the discord CLF exclusive. Earlier today that kicked users of my Clan from the discord, hence my having to create a thread here and bring the issue up.

I'd much prefer that an existing discord allow for anyone interested to partake. Even if multiple usergroup levels need to be created allowing CLF exclusive channels on the discord. There was a place allowing people interested in clan leadership to communicate, and it has now been restricted.

I really don't want anything to do with managing a discord, nor do I want to open a new one, but I do believe a medium of communication that is more inclusive to the clan community at large is needed.

Oh I see. I'm (sadly) not too active on that discord at the moment, so didn't know about that. :(

I'd personally love to have more of a community type area for clan leaders in general, but doesn't seem super realistic when I've watched how people interact in current/past servers and responses here. A lot of what keeps people engaged with the current CLD is that Mod Shauny responds there and not a lot (in clan leader context) outside of it. For better or worse, seems like that's what most people want out of something like that.

I don't really have the patience or time to want to deal with the egos that came up in trying to start CLC (aimed to be more of a community one at the time), and subsequent servers that also tried to pop up. I guess it's unsurprising in an environment where we're all used to being leaders and making decisions that everyone wants to input their own point of views, but makes it difficult. Neither CLC had nor CLD has that community feeling to me, and I'm not sure it's a big priority for a lot of people? I don't know there. Been too much drama around "oh jeez another server" and comparing alternatives to the initial that it's just a headache most would rather avoid.

That said, I'd love if there was more of a place that felt like I could just get feedback from and bounce ideas off of other leaders or other people who have been in similar places. I know you technically could do that anywhere, but it hasn't felt like that to me. Contact from JMods is great but that's only one part of it and ideally (which sadly has fallen back a bit) more of the "official" communication would occur in some place that's actually, you know, official. *shrug*
I'm in no condition to post. Wait a minute - I don't have to listen to myself! I'm drunk

Draziw,

There was an attempt to run a discord for the broader community, the "CLC" that Not A Puppet is referring to in his post above. Check here for some info . Unfortunately I personally (despite being only one of 7 people founding it) came under such a lot of attack that I have given up, thrown in the towel and the CLC has pretty much been abandoned since mid-March. I still have not, nor will I, disclose who the other founders were. This is entirely up to them to do if they ever chose to.

This is the discord server most people still commonly refer to as "the second clan leaders discord", although it was not the second one created, nor was it intended to be just a clan leaders discord, but to look at what players want from clans, rather than what clan leaders need for clan administration.

If anyone else wants to try to start such a server again, I wish them the best of luck. It is a good idea and there were many supporters of it, but eventually threats and power struggles just got the best of me.
