Hello guys :)

One of the biggest issues I've had with my clan since February, 2016, is finding responsible people to help us lead and keep the clan as active as we would like it to be. We've had people before, but they either became untrustworthy and didn't do what was needed when it counted, or left the leadership group altogether. So far, the only people that I've been able to trust longterm, is myself, and my boyfriend, Gerry Berry.

We currently have a lot of casual players who don't really care about clans aside from having people to talk to, or play for a week and never log on again.

Gerry and I have a ton of work on our shoulders because we simply can't find mature and dedicated people to trust.

I'm looking for any tips people can give me for finding people to help us so we don't get burnt out. It seems like most other clans have no problem finding people who will actually help with things, people they can trust. But I keep running into this problem again and again, and at this point, I'm wondering if it's even possible to find people who are serious enough about the game to take on a leadership role.

List of ideas so far:
~Requiring a Clan Meeting where attendance and/or voting is mandatory? (There is currently nothing required in my clan and we would like to keep it that way)
~Having an optional eeting every month for all clan members who care about the future of the clan and discuss the issues

TL;DR: Need tips for finding mature and dedicated leaders!

Finding staff that are willing to actually help running the Clan is hard, and one we are also struggling with, mainly as you have said the Clan members are happy to sit in the CC.

We also have busy offsite forums that staff are also responsible for keeping active and up to date.

Luckily we have 4 brilliant owners all who have different strengths that keep Consentus CC and Consentus forums active and interesting.
Proud to say Clan Consentus is now 13 Years old and still going strong.

People don't want to feel like being in a clan is a chore. Mandatory meetings – heck, mandatory events, which are meant to be fun – can get tiresome. This goes for both voting on things as a regular clannie, like you're suggesting, and giving leaders responsibilities that they must set time aside for – for example, if a certain person, a certain leader, has to check citadel cappings every Sunday. Boring, takes a while, seems like work.

However, a bit more on topic so we can maybe come up with some more specifics...
What kind of things would you be asking potential leaders to do to
- leader-wise, as in setting a direction/tone for the clan?
- in trying to keep the chat active?

When I think of trying to keep the chat active, I think of going to Recruitment - Looking For A Clan forums and posting a template reply to advertise your clan to potentials. However, in a previous clan of mine that did this, doing this was limited to, as you say, leaders (this was FCs back then, so Generals were only allowed to reply to these threads). That put people off, people like me who weren't a general, but wanted to help out, because I adored the clan I was in. So on the other side of the coin, limiting things to only your leaders can be counterintuitive to keeping the chat active. But it really depends on the specifics of your clan. And I'm sure that's not particularly helpful... you probably know what not to do already.

Don't post generic Template replies. It's a terrible way to recruit and it has such a low success rate that it isn't worth your time. It's borderline spamming with a lot of clans too.

The best way to approach these adverts on the forums is to contact in-game first; the sooner you make human connection the more likely you are to build rapport, and therefore a friendship.

It is a good idea to try and message the person in-game (unless they specify otherwise) with something like "Hey, I saw you advertising that you were looking for a clan on the forums, I lead a clan which does [stuff] - would you be interested?"

It can also help your case if you ask them if they would prefer you to leave a short/sweet reply on the thread rather than messaging them, as they are probably getting a lot of messages.

A smart clan will always ad lib a bit in posts they make on recruitment threads, pick and choose to which threads they reply, and know that multiple recruitment techniques should always be employed. PMing in-game when you only have a few dozen members can seem a bit desperate. People like to know what your clan has to offer, which can be more easily expressed via a forum post. Chances are if they make a forum post as opposed to checking out threads and entering your CC as a guest, they want replies to their thread.

But that's not really the topic of this thread, as I doubt many people will be picking too many leaders straight from recruits.

Honestly you will never find anyone else as passionate about your clan as you are apart from a loved one.

I honestly feel that it's like with anything in life, make the role fulfilling with some progression and it will appear more enticing and enjoyable for the person you find the rest is luck.

@Post
, I agree. But I guess no one thinks about how rewarding leading a clan is. Our current expectations of our leaders is 1-2 specific days where they are responsible for updating our spreadsheets which takes 5-10 minutes if everyone actually does it (who leaves, joins, caps, drop broadcasts for competitions etc), leading 1 weekly event, and 1 activity or competition (which will probably change in the future).

Our clan is incredibly active for how many leaders we have (mainly just 2). So that's not really an issue. It's just finding people who are not just interested in having a group of people to talk to, but actually want to help clan-wise.

I do use the LFC Forum (when I'm not on vacation like I am now) and
@Subzero
, our recruitment template has proven very effective. We also PM people in game but the template is what catches people's attention. Half the time the people I PM never PM me back. So that also isn't an issue. It is far easier to explain our clan in a post. Based off of my original post, I don't have time to explain everything in PM that they can just read off the forum. Certainly not time to waste on people who end up not being interested until we get some help with leading.

Some things should be left for the leaders to do. People we can trust. We can't have monkeys doing the spreadsheets where the leaders end up having to clean up the mess anyway.

I'm not asking for new people to become leaders right away. Obviously they have to earn the rank like everyone else or it is unfair.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Those responsibilities don't seem like too much of a burden, you're right. If I remember I might check out your clan thread later and see what's what!

BTW have you seen Lisaa's thread in Clan Central about admins? 135-136-392-65900454 . It is for people looking for admins to help out. It might help you garner some interest from outside, if you've already asked people in the clan if they want to step up but have they have not wanted to? Just another option.
