Could be argued that banded armour was yet another thing the Romans did a Microsoft with (i.e. copied from someone else and then made their own, like the
gladius
from Iberia) - the Bronze Age 'Dendra Panoply' from Greece may have been an early forerunner.

Plus after Rome no one in Europe really uses banded armour AND the evidence for widespread Roman use is actually very limited. Certainly it seems likely that the common image of every Roman in an army wearing segmentata is massively incorrect.
