Currently the only ranks that exist in Old school Runescape are the basic Friends chat ranks,
Friend, Recruit, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, General and Clan Chat Owner (key)
As clans become bigger or players are in the clan longer and become equally active or supportive of the clan. How do you justify giving out more higher ranks? Like, I ran a clan in Rs2 awhile (pre eoc) and when the Official Clan Chat's came out, they also came with a wide variety of ranks and options you could include in each rank, varying how you'd like.
But there just isn't that sort of options available for Old School Runescape currently.
So basically I guess what I'm asking is what would you do? Or how should I approach this as a leader?
What I would do is have one clan system for both osrs and normal rs.
Where members of these clans can join from both game-types and actually be in the clan chat while they play.
This would automatically mean the ranks are a non issue.
Clans can then, themselves, make a choice to focus just on 2007, just on 2017 or on both.
Well this situation is soley based on the OSRS side, Rs3 isn't included into the scenario.
The issue is having too many people as one rank because, in reality they would all in a perfect world deserve it. But then you get stuck with too many of one type? I don't know, I might be overthinking it :/
I think patience is just gonna be key on my part as the Clan Leader.. It's been a long time since I started a new clan up again and I guess it was making me fidget a little xD
My OSRS clan isn't based on friends chat ranks, as RuneScape isn't our main communication platform. All ranks are defined on our forums, the only function of ranks ingame is so officials can challenge in Clan Wars and to track namechanges of members for our offsite memberlist. I would suggest using a different communication platform such as Discord, TeamSpeak or offsite forums. Most people don't have their runescape.exe open all day, but these other programs can run perfectly on the background. It also makes communication between staffmembers easier if you don't have to wait for them to come online in RuneScape.
To be honest I would like to see that the clan chat is across games just like the friend chats or that people can 'guest join' a RS3 clan from OSRS. This way clans who have players from both communities don't need the use of other things like Discord/Teamspeak/Offsite forums to conversate.
But I believe this is currently not technically possible and needs a recoding of some clan coding...

Clanchats in 07 ARE a concern for every one on RS. 07 is a great addition but for one thing: it divides the community by not allowing clanmembers to play both while also being in the clan chat at all time.
As far as too many people of one rank are concerned, that would be fixed by adopting the same rank structure as 'EOC' , arguably we have too many ranks..
Re too many ranks, I could always find something to do with any extra ranks that were created.
Some of mine serve a double or triple purpose at the moment, so I'd very cheerfully welcome additions!
I believe any Clan System built for OSRS would be wholly separate to the current RS Clan structure. It is unlikely that Clan Chats would be shared across the two as that would create serious development issues for the future (if you think current spaghetti code is a problem consider what happens when you expect it to function across two games that are developing in different directions!)
