ty for the info and i have passed the info onto my clan and will keep doing so as everyone is on at different times throughout the week
I'm planning to post this in Spanish on our website, but it'd be nice if Jagex finally got around to updating the Online Security Support Guides. In the meantime, I guess we all just need to keep sharing it. #PlaySafeStaySafe
I'm still investigating Online Safety - everything from Online Privacy to Proper Ways of Using a Computer. I still remember some of the first on-paper guides when personal computers became popular back in 1995 and some of the old RuneScape knowledge base safety guides we had in 2006 that were removed when they replaced the knowledge base with the wiki. Some of that needs to be rebuilt and modernized.

Many years ago my brother was a victim of a similar attack on Steam, thankfully I was able to recover his account.
It happens too often and this is a good reminder for every clan to advocate safety features that Jagex has in place within their clan.
Thanks for the reminder and great information shared
Steam also has an authenticator called Steam Guard. Just another reminder you should have 2-factor authentication system everywhere you can, but most importantly on your email.
At the time it was well before Steam guard with less security features but yes indeed people should just remind clannies of the features at their fingertips
Just out of curiosity, how can it bypass the authenticator part though? Isn't the authenticator on your phone therefore separate from the laptop that has a virus?

They can easily deactivate authenticator if they have access to your email, which is why 2-step authenticator is highly, highly recommended. They would then struggle getting into your email to deactivate it, but there's is always ways around things, but it's not easy that's for sure.
