===== Section 30: Tips & Tricks 2 =====
- You can send ships anywhere in RS, just use your Captain's Log!

Getting 4 lifeboats to protect your captains/crew:
1. Do your daily Ports random event (see Sections 16-20).
2. Buy Player Owned Ports Enhancers from Bryll's Elite Dungeon Reward Shop for 50,000 Dungeoneering tokens each. Price is 46.5K tokens each if Warped Gorajo outfit owned.
3. Head to Wythien in the Meilyr clan of Priffdinas to activate Ports enhancers - When using enhancers, you can not get any random event reward that's already at cap, so no charges are wasted unlike daily random events. This allows you to instantly get all 4 lifeboats! Also works for getting adventurer rerolls to drastically speed up Ports progress!
4. Since there's a max cap of 1 lifeboat, apply it to each ship as you get, using your Captain's Log.

- Merchant trait boost rounds down, but ensures at least 1 bonus trade good.
For example with Terracotta Merchant (+33%):
Hook: 1 > 2 (+1 bonus)
Scythe: 2 > 3 (+1 bonus)
Jade: 3 > 4 (+1 bonus)
Pincers: 5 > 6 (rounds down)
Loop: 6 > 7 (rounds down)
Shield: 8 > 10 (rounds down)

- Use your adventurer icons to assist the chances of getting your favorite voyages (trio voyages, trade good voyages, etc.). Use one on each new adventurer whose storyline you are not finished with, then switch to whatever icon combination you want after all stories & clues voyages are done.

- If you need trio voyages, make sure the adventurers you do need are NOT at sea at reset. For better odds, keep unneeded adventurers out on ships, and don't check the ships when they return.

- Even when you give the best answers for Meg's weekly adventures, those only serve to help increase her skills and chance of success. You are NOT guaranteed a huge lamp reward even with perfect answers.

Everyone be warned, with the
patch notes on February 15, 2021:

"Fixed an issue with effects being active on ships that returned from a failed voyage."

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/a=235/c=1OUs10aQFFE/this-week-in-runescape---double-xp-live#patch_notes

This results in any ship being sent on voyages losing their attached lifeboat, even on successful voyages. If you sail all 4 ships, all 4 lifeboats will be lost. You can now lose your level 10 endgame crew and perfect +4% captains that took you months/years to get. O_o

Especially painful if you lose a perfect +4% captain, since it takes a long time (6-12 months) to recruit a Shield tier captain (cost 35K chimes), get it to level 10, get Memory clue voyage multiples times to remove all traits, then get +1% trait voyages multiple times to make it +4%.

Edit: Lost my Level 10 Multi-Talented Kharidian Exile to 75.5% (8 Plate) voyage. RIP my great +2970 Seafaring Exile.
I avoided using Terracotta Merchant (69.1% for 10 Plate), but I still lost my best Exile. Ugh. :(

Edit2:
Jagex (February 17, 2021): "Released a hotfix
to prevent the issue from occurring further and it should be safe to set sail on lifeboat-equipped voyages once more."

Basically, head to Wythien in Meilyr part of Priffdinas, and use your Port Enhancer charges to get back your 4 lifeboats. When using enhancers, you can not get any random event reward that's already at cap, so no charges are wasted!

Since there's a max cap of 1 lifeboat, apply it to each ship as you get, using your Captain's Log. Port Enhancer charges (5) can be bought from Bryll's Elite Dungeoneering Reward Shop for 50K Dungeoneering tokens each (46.5K each if Warp Trailblazer outfit owned).

===== Section 56: Leveling Up Crew & Captains =====
XP needed to level up (Cumulative XP)
Lv1: 7 (7)
Lv2: 14 (21)
Lv3: 29 (50)
Lv4: 50 (100)
Lv5: 100 (200)
Lv6: 200 (400)
Lv7: 400 (800)
Lv8: 700 (1500)
Lv9: 800 (2300)
Lv10: 1700 (4000)
Total XP required from Lv0 to Lv10 is 4000

=== Standard Voyages at Max Speed (Resources, XP) ===
Bamboo (20 min): 7 XP = 0.350 XP/min
Gunpowder (48 min): 11 XP = 0.229 XP/min
Slate (1 hr 36 min): 17 XP = 0.177 XP/min
Cherrywood (3 hr 12 min): 29 XP = 0.151 XP/min
Jade (6 hr 24 min): 53 XP = 0.138 XP/min
Stainless Steel (8 hr 00 min): 65 XP = 0.135 XP/min
Terracotta (9 hr 4 min): 73 XP = 0.134 XP/min
Azure (10 hr 40 min): 85 XP = 0.133 XP/min

=== Very Long Voyages at Max Speed (Trade Goods, Scrolls) ===
Skull (Scrolls only, 1 hr 12 min): 16 XP = 0.222 XP/min
Hook (2 hr 24 min): 25 XP = 0.174 XP/min
Scythe (4 hr 48 min): 43 XP = 0.149 XP/min
Bowl (9 hr 36 min): 79 XP = 0.137 XP/min
Pincers (12 hr 0 min): 97 XP = 0.135 XP/min
Loop (13 hr 12 min): 105 XP = 0.133 XP/min
Shield (13 hr 44 min): 108 XP = 0.131 XP/min

Every time a crew member or captain levels up, they gain +10% stats to their original base stats on hire. At level 10, they have exactly DOUBLE the base stats they were originally hired with.

From Level 0 to Level 10 takes 62 Stainless Steel voyages. At 8 hours each, that's 500 hours (3 weeks) of continuous, successful sailing to max out a new recruit.

Build Totem of Navigation on Anachronia for 15% voyage time reduction after ship speed is calculated. Recharge via Remototem each weekly reset.

Maximum XP from a single voyage = 108 * 1.1 (Rallying Cry) * 1.5 (Lotus Tint Spectacles) * 6 members (5 crew + 1 captain) = 1069 total XP

The full XP amount is only awarded for successful or partial successful voyages. Failed voyages give 1 XP to each crew member and captain.

UPDATED!!! :O :D :)

===== Section 55: How to Gain Distance Fastest =====
Always send voyages based in the highest region you are in, all other regions' former distance gains are CUT IN HALF.

Even failed voyages give 100% distance gain! However, failed voyages provide only 1 XP for each crew/captain on board.

Only the higher-amount resource voyages will give the maximum distance in each region (including Barmaid's Tip and adventurer resource voyages).
- Arc: 150/160/180/250 Bamboo
- Skull: 160/175/250/350 Gunpowder
- Hook: 180/300/400/500 Black Slate
- Scythe: 300/500/650 Cherrywood
- Bowl: 360/600/800 Jade
- Pincers: 450/700/900 Stainless Steel
- Loop: 125/175/275/325/400 Terracotta
- Shield: 240/360/560/720 Azure

Always have all 4 ships sailing 24/7/365 (not idle in port). Make sure to raise speed whenever possible. You know you have maxed out your speed when further increases in speed do not lower your voyage time. Scroll and trade good voyages have higher speed caps. Adventurer story voyages do NOT give distance progress.

At 12.5 distance (miles) per minute per ship sailing (if ship is at/above max speed), you can gain ~72,000 distance in a 24 hour period with all 4 ships sailing 24/7 (not idle in port).

With Totem of Navigation active (15% time reduction after ship/voyage speed calculated) on Anachronia, you can gain ~84,000 distance max/day, with all 4 ships sailing 24/7.

Every time you log in or log out, you delay all ships up to 1 minute, but it averages ~30 seconds. Beware when quick hopping worlds often.

Each voyage has it's listed time and a random +/- 7 minutes (Arc), 8 minutes (Skull), 10 minutes (Scythe), 12 minutes (Pincers), 14 minutes (Shield).

Hi Kags, amazing guide. I just discovered this and i'm in the hook region. Would it still be worth going back to the beginning to unlock ship upgrades from early? Also when i get to the next region am i basically just going to end up dumping the crew for new ones? Is there any crew that I keep from region to region? Basically the only thing I couldn't follow from your guide and that's probably just because I'm not reading closely enough. It's a lot to take in. Thanks!

Yea, old crew "die" every time you reach a new region. That's why its important for you to keep all ships sailing 24/7. Even failed voyages give 100% distance.

How early are you in Hook region? If just reached, get new rudder, get 4-6 Hook crew, go back to beginning and unlock all ship/building upgrades while leveling up the new crew.
